Possible show dog? I am wondering if my little Amber is show quality. I am taking her tomorrow to the owner of the father who was an AKC judge and have her looked at. After that I will take her to another judge and have her checked out again. Can't hurt to have 2 opinions, right? But in the mean time I was wondering what you look for in an 8-9 wk old pup. She has straight feet, straight teeth, is a slight bit long in the body, but looks pretty square. She has the bear face but it's her hair, I think her muzzle is the right length for her face and her ears seem to me to be where they are supposed to be. Anything else I should look for? Sylvia |
It is really hard to tell at this young age, better at 5-6 months of age. So much can change between now and when ready to show. It is also hard to tell from a picture - best is using hands-on. Is there a picture? You can check ear shape and size, eye shape and dark rim around eyes, no health issues, gait, personality, and of course color and hair texture to add to you list. Did I forget anything else? Oh yes, level topline. Personality is a biggy! I have had and seen gorgeous dogs before, but if they don't like the ring - it is not worth putting them through it. Best of luck and let us know what the judges say. Do they judge yorkies? Do you know how to grow a coat? If not - find out. This is also important when showing our breed. T. |
puppy JMO...but if the judge is not a breeder/judge, take what they say with a grain of salt. You are not wasting your time, opinions can be knowledge.... but it is always best to go to a breeder or breeder/judge. |
