Yorshire Terrier Hall of Fame?
 

Yesterday I was in the public library and stumbled upon a book that documented dog shows back in the late 1800's and early 1900's. There were photo's of almost every breed, it was fascinating to see how some breeds had visibly changed over the last 100 years of breeding. For me, the pug and bulldog had the most visible changes (just my opinion) I found it interesting looking at the yorkie photo's how similar our yorkies look today. The dogs in the pictures from over 100 years ago looked like today's Yorkie's.

This is a byproduct of over 100 years of dedication to the breed by so many people who are way smarter and more talented than me.

It got me thinking. I am a huge baseball fan, a big part of the fun of baseball is the history and the stats of many of the all time great players. What is so fun about baseball history is that it is so old. You can look at Babe Ruth's statistics and compare them with any modern player and given enough context make a comparison. Certain players performed so incredibly well they end up in the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown NY (Where the game may have been invented, although there is debate about that)

So Here is my question: If we were to build a Yorkshire Terrier Hall of Fame, celebrating all the great people and Yorkies that have contributed to the breed since 1868 who would be in it?

Here would be my criteria for selection to the Yorkie Hall of Fame

- Anyone involved in the creation of the breed
- Any dog that contributed greatly to the creation of the breed (i.e. Huddersfield Ben)
-Unprecedented Success in the show ring
- A dog/bitch or breeder with a high amount of offspring who go on to become champions.
- Any Yorkie who served honorably in the armed forces, USO, or were memorably entertaining and or famous (i.e. Smoky the war dog)

I think the answer on where to build the hall of fame is pretty easy. It should be built in Yorkshire England, in an old refurbished mill. It could be really cool.

So who belongs in the Hall of Fame YTer's?

Right now I only have a few nominations:

Huddersfield Ben and Smoky the War Dog

Ben's Breeder and Bill Wynne.

There has to be hundreds if not thousands more!

Who is the Joe Dimaggio of Yorkies? Who is the Yorkshire Terrier version of Sandy Koufax?

I would have to nominate Clarkwyns Jubilee Eagle and Cede Higgins.
Some of the top lines are Durrer, Rothby and Pastoral. I am sure there are many more but I am not familiar will all the lines.
