Such a little cutie |
Thank you best grandson lol |
Did she buy him from someone that shows? If so, they should be willing to mentor you so far as getting ready for show. I also recommend going to dog shows and watch....not just yorkies, but other toy breeds and group as well. Watch the professional handlers and how they handle the dogs in the ring. Meet the Yorkie exhibitors and start networking...if they know you are serious, some will be willing to give you advice on showing. |
Well first I hope he was sold under the understanding that you will show him. Beyond the advice already given, you can look into your local dog clubs; often times they will run handling seminars or workshops. Also there are multiple videos out there on how to handle and groom the Yorkshire Terrier. Kirsten McGregor has several videos on this subject. |
Everyone that shows started at one time or another. I don't know how old your daughter is but junior dog showmanship is taught in 4H. Also many dog clubs have classes. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Go to dog shows and watch. Many of the vendors at dog shows know people that show and wouldn't mind helping you. Some shows offer newbie classes before the event. We took that class. The show secretary told us to meet her at a specific time so she could help groom our lab. She helped us and he placed second in the puppy class. Be bold and be aware to keep trying to get information because no pun intended, but show dog people can be indifferent as you are competition:) Good luck to you. |
