Can an adult Yorkie begin shows and how do you start? I am in the Dallas, TX area. I would love to get into some beginner shows with my Yorkie. Any clubs out there I can contact to get started in classes and "fun" shows? I have a three-year old male. Is he too old to begin showing? |
Showing There is not age limit and many are not ready until 2. Some people perfer to grow the coat and start in Open (adults). I would start at a fun match and handling classes. Go to regular shows to learn grooming etc..you learn by watching. My Katherine's father was not shown until he was 3 yrs..and he finished with no trouble. Good Luck |
Contact your local kennel club and see if they have training classes that you can go to. There you can learn how to show your dog. You also need to find a mentor who shows to help you learn how to properly groom your dog for the ring. You can have a great dog but if not correctly groomed for the ring you are waisting your money and time and will become frustrated with your lack of results. Your mentor can also help you decide if your baby is show quality. |
Thank you so much for the helpful words. I will keep you all posted on our progress. |
Best of luck and enjoy. |
