Yorkie training success! I just wanted to share an experience. I always worried about picking my Yorkie up all the time, I thought it might be strange for him to find himself suddenly 'flying'. So I decided that every time I was about to pick him up I would say 'Up'. It took a few months but now.....when I look at him and say 'up' he backs up toward my legs ready to be picked up. I am so happy with this result because it has so many positive points. Now, when he is asking for something, I can immediately find out if he wants to be carried or not. :animal36 |
Yorkies are so smart. I have a couple that will back up to me when I put my hand down to pick them up. They just learned that on their own. I never thought of giving a voice command. |
yip very smart I could not believe it the day he did it for the first time. My intention was just to let him know when I was about to lift him up so he would not be surprised. He made it into something so much better. |
Whenever I say something like, "Come get pretty" mine run up to me and turn around because they know those velcro outfits are usually put on when your behind them. Of all the dogs I've owned over the years, I'd have to say Yorkies are certainly one of the smartest (if they could talk, they'd probably tell you that too! lol) |

General discussion I read the choice of places to start this discussion and chose the one I chose because the general discussion said that it was for things not related to Yorkies (or at least that is how it reads) a clearer division among subjects and a general Yorkie comment forum would be a smart addition for people who are new to this .:animal-pa |
I have a Yorkie and a Maltese that are trained for a "pick up position". Whenever I sit at my computer desk or any chair, I snap and point to a spot on the ground on my right side. They come running, face forward and wait to be picked up. Of course if I'm not paying attention when they want up, I get pawed at until I do the snap and point. I'm not sure if they have me trained or I have them trained. |
