Humidifier for Room
 
I recently read a book on From Best Intentions to Best in Show (I think that is the title, I left the book at work)

It was a great read, one of the items she covered was the best thing if you have show dogs, for coat care is to have an in room humidifer for them in the room they are in the longest.

So my question is, do you exhibitors do this? I think I have a portable humidifer I can set up.

No, I do not have one set up and never have. I have to make sure my house is never really cold as I believe if the house stays cold they can develop leather ear.
Does this book say why one would need a humidifier?

I really should look at the book first before I answer, but what I remember is that it has to do with lack of moisture in the air, from heating or air conditioning. I do notice that Razz gets more static in the winter months when our heat is on. Actually all our dogs do. Don't notice it so much in summer time, but then we rarely have the A/C on.

I thought leather ear comes from ears that aren't properly dried out. I know I spend a good bit of time making sure Razz's ears are dried and cleaned every time I wash him. But he is easy as his ears stand up, you don't want to know what I have to do for my drop eared BRT;s to get and keep ear health.

some say leather ear comes from moisture but I have found it so common with their environment being cold. I had one that came from a home that the kennel was in a room with a window unit that kept the room very chilly and both bitches had leather ear and when I got one home with me in my warmer environment it got better but not completely and when Radar went with his handler and he was in her motorhome which was kept very cool he started developing it and thank goodness he came home before it took hold. Every time I see it, it's because of the cold environment.
