Let's Talk Expression For my first time this past wkend, 4 out of the 6 judges spent a whole lot of time looking at expression. So my question is; in your mind what constitutes a good expression? What qualities of expression would be present for you to say, love his/her's expression? |

I look at alertness and looking at the judge. Ears should be up and not afraid of the judge. They should show intelligence as well. I hope this helps. |

to me expression is in the eyes and the ears. Being someone that notices eyes on a person I look at the eyes in yorkie for expression! Eyes show alot in what a yorkie feels. The spark, alertness, the micheivousness ect...the ears also show expression. If the ears are moving they are knowing what's around them also an expression of alterness. Donna |

I wouldn't say Radar looks at the judge when we stop after doing the up and back as he's always watching me but when we are stacked on the floor and the judge is going down the line Radar stares the judge down and uses his ears. Only time Radar moves his ears back when oming back to the judge is when he hears something behind him. But he focuses on me alot when we come back to the judge. His expression is of love and admiration for his momma LOL...but eyes and ears can show alot of expression!! |
Expression is the general appearance of all features of the head. A dog appears confident spunky when ears are up facing what's ahead. |
Some dogs have been known to "flirt" with the judges! :p |

I have one that obtain his Championship with his expression. Not that he's not a great representation of the breed. But, the boy knows how to give the look. He'd always break the judges up. |
I know what you mean. Gigi has that and she finished in just three weekend shows with an extra major. She was something else in the ring. She loved the judges and I actually think she thought she was the best and told the judges with her expression. She would look at the judges and could not wait to get back in the ring. She would self stack and just seemed to know exactly what to do. My boy now has that. He has that it! He loves the lead and also self stacks. Ears up/ nice ear set, looks at you with total expression - real terrier attitude and thinks he is all that and is a joy to watch!! :D |
