I will say that most of us that exhibit & breed with the best interest of the breed are snobs. I know I am...I call myself a yorkie snob all the time. |

Well when it comes to showing yorkies in the ring yes I'd be considered a snob LOL...but as pets go they all be cute and cuddly :) |

One thing I do at shows is to make notes in my catalog book. You ought to see be talk fast when someone wants to borrow it and I have to explain why. Yikes! I also make notes about the judges too for that day. I then use it as a reference tool. |

As a novice I know I don't have that eye yet, but try to take all honest opinions to heart for a future breeding program. :) So I guess I would be considered a "snob in training". ROTFLOL!! :D |

You'll develop the eye but always remember what I might like you might not like. Everyone will have a different opinion and a different type of yorkie. That is what my mentor first told me and she was right. You might add something to the type you like but you'll normally stick to the type of yorkie you want. I know what I like and with that I had to add a beautiful head. Now with being a structure and movement freak I'm a major head hunter LOL..gotta have that pretty head! As Mary said, watch out for kennel blindness as well. I'm not sure it's really snobbish it's just knowing what you like and knowing what the breed standard calls for and up holding that :) |
Okay, I am guilty of this too. I do keep my opinions of others yorkies to myself or just talk to my daughter about it. That is as far as we go with it. I do love all yorkies no matter what they look like, but I find myself without even knowing it checking structure, coat etc. I own a dog grooming business so I see all kinds of breeds. Sometimes my daughter and I joke about how we check out dogs so much. It's like checking out a guy(HUMAN) LOL;) |

Right now it's all just a learning experience for me. Just trying to learn all I can. Hope it never stops being fun. :) |
Theresa, too funny, but I know exactly what you mean. When I look at any dog now I tend to pick them apart but it's only at the shows that I do this at. I have also become very critical of my own dogs and it has helped me in deciding what to keep back and what to pet out. Right now I am in the stages of really noticing the different types of look within the breed other than the type I love. I can honestly say this Betty Anne Durrer has some very beautiful dogs. |
