Show me your topknot pillows/bed if you use one.
 
I am thinking about designed my own satin topknot pillow/bed combo. What are your thoughts on that? Would this be something of great use? I am starting to get my showing kit and supplies together...hehe....all thoughts, comments and pictures would be greatly appreciated.

I purchase my topknot pillows from Lainee LTD.....as they have two sizes. I have two small ones and two large ones. The small for pups and larger for adults....I prefer the larger size as I like the dogs head pretty level when I'm doing the topknots. I usually have two of everyting, so that I can keep one set at home and one for travel Satin crate pads I make myself.

thanks...i will take a look at those....to get some ideas...

i am thinking about making a satin topknot pillow with pad attached so as they lay down with their head rested on the pillow their body will be on the satin pad also...would that be a good idea or bad? i mean i was watching the show preparation dvd that came in over the weekend...and thought hey the pillow concept is neat...but why not have it attached to a satin pad also so while putting in the topknot their body hair (which is done before do the topknot) would get sorta messed up...if i make sense.

Here is a photo of my topknot pillows. I am not sewing right now due to my work. So hope this may help.

I think that you need to use whatever works for you.

There have been satin crate pads that have had the neck pillows attched to them; As a matter of fact I still have one from back in the day. The problem is they used velcro to attach the two.

I use two seperate. You'll still have to redo the coat a bit after the topknot is up, even using a crate pad for them to lay on.

I have some dogs that refuse to lay down during the topknot procedure, but will stand pefectly still while it is being done.

As a sewer I was wondering how she was going to attach the two together. Velcro - not a good idea, catches on their hair, so I would have to turn the pad over. When not using the pillow and would need to take pillow off when not using it, since we need the room. Maybe snaps would be better. Hmmm..

Trying to get a topknot in is the hardest thing I have ever had to do. You have some moving their heads this way and that, some hate you to mess with their topknots and others will lay there. Depends on the dog. I am getting better finally after how many years - to put up a topknot on a moving head.:rolleyes:

One thing to consider is the maintenance.....crate pads you can wash and dry in delicate cycle.

Topknot pillows a bit tricker....I make a very sudsy mixture of cold water and woolite. Using a small scrub brush I only use the suds to wash the topknot pillows, then with the scrub brush I go over it with clear water and then air dry the topknot pillow. I tried doing it via the washer and drier method....all I had was stuffing everywhere.

I'm not sure about the snaps either. When I'm at a show site, timing is everything, to keep yourself and your dog calm. Everything is packed precisely....and I'm not sure if snapping or attatching a topknot pillow to a crate pad is something I want to take the time to do. Although, my topknot pillows (which are in the same style yours are Tina), do have a snap to keep the pillow attached together and prevents the dog from easily slipping out.

that is a good point...maybe i could just sew myself a satin u shape neck pillow cover that can go over one of those travel neck pillows...i wonder if that would work...

as far as attaching it...i know i would not use velcro...maybe have it sew together....i like the ideas...keep them coming...so maybe by the time i am ready to put everything together...it will be just perfect...lol

I put mine in a pillow case on gentle cycle. Have you tried that Mary? Just make sure the pillow case is tied so there is not much room for movement inside the case. :thumbup: Oh yes, use cold water and I let them air dry.

It has to be very easy and fast to put in the case. We usually do not have much time.

I think you're making too much work for yourself...but, give it a try.

Will give it a try.....although, they don't dirty that much, on occassion they require washing, since they'll get stained with products that are used.

If you ask the pro. handlers for suggestions - they are the ones that can tell you what they need or wish was invented. They are usually at a show every weekend and some - 4 day weekend shows.

Yep! Time is of the essence.....by the time you get to the show site......potty and exercise the dogs....set up all your eqipment, lay out your grooming equipment.....go to the bathroom, go watch the judge you are going to show too. Come back and begin grooming.....everything needs to move like a swiss watch.

well i meant and assume that i would have already put the pillow inside the case prior when packing to go to the show...and that it could be remove for easy washing...

LOL - You don't know me. It is all about how fast can we pack the car or RV and hit the road. Now that I have the RV it may be easier.

I usually come in the door from a show, and start the washing machine. Everything is washed and repacked, the monday after a show. Everything placed in my travel area and ready for the next show. For me that is the best way, that way I'm not looking for this and that, just pack everything into the car. Each container has a typed list of what goes into it, that way when I'm at a hotel room I can check off items. I left a SeaBreeze x-pen at a hotel room....big lesson learned there. Even my suitcase has a 2nd makeup case, the only thing I have to pack into that is my show clothes and shoes.....everything else is there.

Okay - Mary, you are coming with me to all my shows. I love it! That is not me. I have tried. Now, luckily I keep the RV packed with grooming equipment. I have a set for the house and one set for the RV so I do not have to unpack and they are there.

I have to be organized, otherwise when I'm under pressure, my mind is out in left field.....

My old handler, thought I was nuts.....but, really liked it when he sat down to groom, everything that he needed was layed out perfectly for him.....he said that since I began traveling with him....he could find everything blindfolded.

Is it just to hold it in place? Won't you need an extra pad w/o the pillow if you used one?

If you are good on the machine there are many things you can make that would be useful.

It sounds like you're looking for ways to improve something old with a new idea. You will find plenty of uses for your talents.

In the DVD she didn't use a crate pad, just the covered grooming table. If you like to carry a satin crate pad to put on your ringside table then you'll require an additional pad.

This is why I said some people would then need two pads. Two pads for the benefit of having one stay in place. I'm not sure about that.
