AKC Sanctioned B Match.......what is this and how is it different than reg entry?

B Matches are for puppies only, I think 4 months to 18 months of age. They are no points, but great for practice......You have bitches and dogs according to age in each class, all first place winners in each class compete for BOB and go on to compete for Best Puppy.......They are fun, the down side is they are held after the regular dog show and at times go on to 9 at night. But, they are great fun.......always good for the pups that you are preparing for the big ring. If memory serves me, your pup can't have any points to compete.

Okay I see.....Looking at the entry I see it has 3-6 month, 6-9, 9-12 and then Open.....We need all the practice we can get..me and the boys.;):aimeeyork

Puppy matches are great fun and can be a great experience for your pup. Your pup can be pointed as long as it doesn't have a major. The judges are usually so patient and gentle. Some matches are held during the day without a show going at all. One local club has them two days in a row and our yorkie club has a yorkie puppy match and a toy puppy match on the same day. You'll have a ball and you get to see all the adorable pups.

Since you're in Texas....go for it....B matches are few and far between in Texas and are always held after the dog shows. The only other one that I remember of is in Stephenville.

The last one I attended was about 4 years ago in Canton at the Tyler Kennel Club Dog Show........It was my Tahlulah's first weekend out and the weekend she first pointed. But, I do remember that those of us that entered were so hungry by the time it was over, we all commented that we must have been nuts to enter. But, we had a ball.

I wish clubs would go back to the old "fun matches" as they were called...(guess I'm showing my old age..lol). I remember we had them twice a year and always held of weekends. Anyone could enter a dog that didn't have a major. Great fun and great practice since they had breed judging, group judging and BOM.

Yes, I remember the good old days in Houston when there were lots of B matches. I never forget the time I got a Best Puppy In Show with one of my St. Bernard pups and a Group 1 with one of my adult Saints. They were a lot of fun and a great learning experience.

Just found this on the AKC website.

No dog that is a champion of record may be entered
in a conformation match (except that champions may
be entered in any junior showmanship classes). A
champion may be present, as an added attraction,
provided special permission has been granted by The
American Kennel Club. Entry of major pointed and
pointed dogs may be restricted at the club’s discretion;
however, notice must appear in all advertising.

I somewhat remembered that each Kennel Club and not the AKC determined whether or not a dog could be pointed or Majored or not, in a Sanctioned Match.

I noticed the premium list I received it states "No Champion of record or Major Pointed Dogs may enter the match".

But I will not be able to attend this "B Match" I just realized it is the same weekend as New York. I just booked a flight soooooo, won't be at this one. However I will be looking forward to them in the near future.

You will have a better time in NY. Have you gone before? If not, what an experience. I can't go this year, but have plans to attend next year already.:D Have fun!!

We have a B/OB Match here in Jan. (on a Friday) I will be attending the Match if I can get there in time. I love the prices of the Matches - only 5.00 for this one (I think most all of them are this price). Titled dogs may be shown in this Match for exhibition only. Professional handlers and majot pointed dogs are welcomed at this Match. Then they have the regular shows Sat. and Sun. Already entered for these.
This will be the fist time going and staying on the grounds in our RV. So looking forward to it. :bananna:

No I have never been. This will be the biggest show that I have attended. I've never been to New York so it will be quite an experience. I'm really excited. Oh my.....what to wear? Good excuse to shop for some new clothes.....I can hear my husband moaning already....LOL

Take warm clothes. But, layers, layers, layers. It gets warm in the Grand Ballroom during the shows. Most wear just nice business like attire. The Best Of Breed Competition is very formal for the handlers and judge. Take a good heavy coat, gloves, scarf and a hat....it gets cold. Oh good walking shoes/boots that are warm. If you can attend the YTCA dinner on Saturday night.....fun, fun, fun. Lots of dog shopping at the NY, Penn and Westminster.

We usually leave on Wed. so we can have Thursday for Shopping (Canal Street), since Fri, Sat & Sun are shows. You need to head across the street on Fri for the Progressive Dog Show. We usually stay until Tuesday to attend Westminster on Monday. Attend a Broadway Show if you can on a free night, need to do Rockafeller Center....Ice Skating....there's a resturant there that has a valentine dinner special, dinner & ice skating. The hotel resturant has great food too. If you can take a carriage ride through central park.......

Sounds like so much fun. I would love to stay until Tuesday but my husband at home with all my babies for that long. He helps me but he is a big (Baby) when it comes to poop. He gags and fusses, he could never survive for that long. LOL Pretty hillarious.It seems every single time I go out of town somebody has pooping issues. My husband said it is because they stress out when I leave. I also have a 7 year old in school. So Sunday is my limit.

I definately hope to some of the city while there. I am a bit limited on the walking. I have braces on my legs, my feet are paralyzed. So I can't walk very far. I can walk though and I plan on seeing as much as I can!:D

Sunday, so you'll be leaving Sunday Evening I hope....since YTCA's show is on Sunday.

Sweeps for the NY show and YTCA are on Friday. NY show is on Sat and YTCA is on Sunday.

You'll be so surprised, NY is one of the most fun cities there is, it is very small. There are lots of subways, busses and cabs......City blocks are very short.

I leave late on Sunday afternoon so I may be able to see some of it. I hope!!!I can definately handle short city block walks. At the Airport I am provided rides on carts and wheelchairs. It takes me longer to get through security because I have to take my legs off and I have a spinal cord stimulator implanted so I get to cut in line. If not I would miss my flights....such a joy to travel. But I definately understand the need for the security.

I am soooooo excited!!

The subway can take you just about anywhere you want to go. Don't forget central station and china town. I got a Prada purse to die for the year before last. Maybe I'll find a good deal this year as well.

All Classes :
Puppy match 3 to 6months - 6 to 9 months - 9 to 12 months & Open (adult)
Veteran- Over 7 yrs old.
Also there will be: Prizes, grooming presentations & tips.
Microchip $10 (members) & $15 (non-members)
Anything that you wanted to know about your yorkie. Please come to have fun and relax.
Can't get any better? Immediately following the match there will be a good old fashion Potluck coordinated by Mike Godin. Yes, everyone please bring a dish.
Please email Mike with what you'd like to bring to eat and indicate whether you need refrigerator, or oven space MGodin@GreaterSAYTC.org. We also will have Mike on the grill with hot dogs & BBQ chicken. If you wish to drink something other than coffee, sweet tea, water, or home-made punch... please bring it. Got chairs? Bring em, please.
If you have a xpen for your dog bring it too and your swimming wear/towels.
As always GSAYTC are also donating small bags of Dog kibbles (food) to Animal Care Services (ACS) So you can bring a bag it would help.

Responsible Pet Owners Alliance are holding a "Responsible Pet Ownership Day" at the Hamilton Community Center in Lady Bird Johnson Park on Nacogdoches Road and would love to have you attend. Also they have asked for our help if you possibly could.
It would be a good time for us to meet other people involved with our organization and other pet owners as well. We will be holding a rally competition, a "B" match, and many other activities and could definitely use your help.
Please advise if you might have some time on that Sunday and if so, what time you might be able to attend. The event starts at 10:00 (we will be there starting at 8:00) and goes until 4:00 (we'll be cleaning up and end at 5:00) so any time you could spare would be appreciated.
For those of you that would like to help I will be there by 8am I don't think I will be staying the entire day but I will be there.
So please do tell pet owners about the event and try to attend.
