Question about the Atlanta show this weekend.... I am wanting to try to go to the show in Atlanta this weekend. This will be my first time going to a show and I just wanted to see if any of you knew some of the rules. Is there a certain dress code to go and watch? Also, do you know if I would be able to take my child if I cannot get a babysitter? Would I be able to take my show prospect just to carry around and get her used to the environment? I just didn't want to show up and be surprised if there were a lot of rules or anything. Please let me know if any of you know. Thanks! |
There is no special dress code for spectators. Most spectators just dress casual. Most shows frown on having dogs at the show that are not entered but some people do take dogs. My recommendation would be to leave the dog at home. How old is your pup? Children are allowed but you just have to make sure they are quiet and make sure they know they are not allowed to touch the dogs, especially before the show. Most exhibitors are really busy grooming their dogs right before showtime so you might have to wait and ask questions after the show. If you could sit next to someone that is familiar with show they could explain a lot of it to you. I hope you enjoy it. |
Here is a link to help you out http://www.onofrio.com/plist/atla2pl.pdf - know rules and information, etc... I know the dogs cannot go into the restroom with you. About your dog - see page 13 - 14 for rules. They perfer dogs no younger than 6 months there. It is really important to keep noise to a minium at ringside - if babies cry a lot or loud or dogs bark near ring, it tends to upset the dogs in the ring while showing. But I know you will make sure that doesn't happen. They suggest to bring your own chair. I think you will have a lot of fun and see some really nice yorkies!!! I am not saying you would, but this just brought a memory to me from a past show - Once there was a person that brought their dog in a stroller and was not actually showing - she blocked the entrance to getting in and out of the ring - what a hazzle to squeeze by just to get in the ring. Thank you again for asking and thinking about all this. Some people have no clue. Ring time tomorrow is 10 AM ring 7 and Sunday is 10:55 at ring 7. I highly recommend getting a catalog at the door to make notes. They usually run 10.00 and parking is usually 5.00 for weekend. Dress as you please - usual casual for just watching. |
where do they have this show in Atlanta this Weekend? I live very close to Atlanta and would like to go. Can anyone get in? Do you know how much it is to get in? Is it ok to take my yorkie if I keep him in my carrier? ( it is a front pack) christy:) Mommy of Harley:aimeeyork |

http://www.onofrio.com/jp/ATLA2JP.pdf Personally, I think it is best to leave the dog at home. Why expose him to a possible doggy virus that might be going around at the show and you can relax and enjoy your shopping more. |

I agree it is probably better to leave your dog at home unless, it has had all of it's vaccinations and you are planning on showing your puppy and want to introduce it to the hustle and bustle of the show or would like experienced exhibitors to evaluate it. Have a great time but be careful. The show bug can bite hard..haha |

The catalogs were all sold out when I got there about 8:30 AM. When we left, they still did not have any. My girl did great for a pup. She was a bit anxious at first, so we practiced some over by obedience - nice larger area to practice and not many people. She seemed better by ring time. Still no tail up, but I think she will once she gets use to it all. She did look very pretty. She was in the class by herself. She did okay when we had to go in for Winners though. I was pleased. |
1 Attachment(s) Oops, forget to send a photo of her at the show. |
Wow! She is gorgeous! I am sure you will have great luck with her winning shows as she gets older. The reason I would want to take my puppy is because she is going to be showing in the future. She is 4 and a half months old. I have had people tell me that it is good to take them and get them used to the environment. I wasn't able to make it today unfortunately because my daughter is sick :( I am gonna try my best to make it tomorrow. |

Tina, she is very pretty. Are you showing her tomorrow too? Good luck if you are. |
Yes, I will be back tomorrow. She is just 9 months so it is just for practice. All the girls in Open have coats to the floor, so tough to compete against that. And they are all nice girls and top lines. So it is nice just to hold our own. |

Very nice. She has a great topline and nice reach. |
Thank you! I love the way she moves - so nice to see !!! Well, I did not go to the show today. We are under a flash flood warning and it is raining soooo hard. It was bad enough yesterday getting there and back - having to drive through Atlanta in this weather. I saw several accidents yesterday on the way home and delays. One was not so good. And one guy hydroplanned and just left his car in the far left lane in traffic, but what could he do. It was pouring so hard - it would have been worse if he had stayed in his car and then hit. They had huge cement barriers to seperate the north and south bound there and his car was up against it facing the middle lane, so his car blockled the far left lane completly and no warning it was there till you were up on it. So not risking it today. I am so torn wanting to be there. :( |

What is it with rain, floods and shows...lol It rained for days in Dallas during the specialty with flood warnings.. I was so happy the show was at the hotel since I hate driving in Dallas anyway, then when you add the rain....it's not fun! Sorry you didn't get to go today, but better safe than sorry! Hope the weather gets better there. |
3 Attachment(s) It has rained here for the past week with down pours! Here are some photos of the property between my home and my neighbors, which is usually dry as can be. Not today! Atlanta show is about 2 hours drive from my home, one way. You should have seen the dogs coats yesterday. So much humidity all coats just hung. One year it is static and coats up in the air and next humidity. I would rather have the humidity. The only dogs at the show yesterday that had it good where the ones wearing dread locks. |
Tina, I don't blame you one bit for not getting out in that bad weather. Are there a lot of shows in the Atlanta area? I live about 2 hours from Houston and it can really flood there sometimes too. There are quite a few shows in the Houston area throughout the year. |
Tina, are you okay? I saw on the news about all the deaths and flooding in the Atlanta area. I pray all is well at your home. Hugs. |
3 Attachment(s) Yes, I am fine and dry. My home is up on a big hill, so everything we get goes away from our home. But we have had schools closed today due to all the roads closed and flooding. I just have a bad cold, probably from all the wet weather. Here are a few more photos, that my son took and made it to the local news web site. They are from in town at the local dam/reservior. They have the gates open full, so much water running through. The sun is out now after a brief shower. They said more rain is on the way though. So we are enjoying the sun for today. :D Wishing my magazine would make it to my mailbox. It would be great to read and enjoy all the beautiful yorkies. |
Tina, I am glad you are high and dry. I had heard awhile back that the lakes were drying up there, I bet they are all running over now. It is nice to get rain but no so much at one time. The pictures on tv look really bad. It showed 6 Flags under water. I hope that dam is a strong one. It looks like a lot of water coming over it. I hope you get your magazine. |
OMG! so cute Quote:
