Looking for a Show Mentor I'm looking at getting into the show circut and need a mentor to help with the training and to watch during shows. I'm looking for someone in Colorado if possible. If anyone has any one they know of I would be greatful. |
You might want to go to the ytca and look for a member in your area. They might be able to suggest someone to help you. Here is the website: Yorkshire Terrier Club of America Best of luck to you. |

Thanks guys. I have been looking and couldn't really find any good information. I did a research on shows here in Colorado through AKC and there is just nothing really. A few but not much, so I am going to have to do a lot of traveling to visiting states. Thanks again for the suggestions. |
Yes, I have the same issue here in Utah. It would take 10 years to ch a dog without traveling lol. I had pretty much decided to just do agility with my new baby, but now that she has reacted to shots I am not sure if I can even do that. (The places that give classes require all shots to be given, no titers). |

If you haven't already, visit the AKC.org website and read their info on showing....lots of rules and regulations. |

Why did she react to shots? Doesn't like them or allerigic? |
It was allergic, and only her second set of puppy shots so we have a ways to go to get her protected. I was thinking of getting a show pup, and having this pup do agility. Gave up on the conformation idea, now am discouraged about the agility as well. I am going to see the vet next week and I will ask him further about the vaccinations, maybe ask him to write a letter and ask the local clubs if they will accept the letter with titers? Beg them? Plead? Maybe they will let us do some private lessons or something I don't know. They also do conformation classes so in my dreams I was thinking I would have one dog for each. Now I will just see how it goes with agility and rethink conformation. Another thing you might want to think of is finding a mentor with something other than yorkies. Maybe look for another terrier or toy breed? I know there are some show poodles, whippets, and great danes in my area and they would help me if I asked. Not as useful, but helpful and definitely better than nothing. I hope showing will continue to become more popular in the West and make it easier to point a dog out here. |

While it is an option, showing/grooming/training and the art of presenting a yorkie is much different than any other breed. |
