Is Miley Breed Standard? 4 Attachment(s) This is my ten month old female yorkie, Miley. Would you consider showing her if she was your dog when shes older? If any, what faults do you see she has? Oh and she was really tired when i took these pics, I had just given her a bath and brushing and nail clipping. I hope the picture thing worked he he. |
She looks like a sweet yorkie but my honest opinion is that she does not look show quality. I don't care for her ears or her muzzle. It is hard to tell much about her coat. Is her back still black or is it breaking to steel blue? Does she have any champions in her pedigree? There are many more things to look at too that can't be seen in the photos, like how is her topline, her front and her rear, tail set and tail carriage, how is her movement, etc. It takes a lot to make a show dog. Then even if you have the most perfect looking dog in the world, if they don't like to show you can just forget it. Anyway, sometimes pictures are deceiving so maybe you could go to some dog shows and have someone evaluate her. There are some shows coming up in Houston the weekend after this coming one. Even if she is not a show dog I am sure you will love her all the same. |

The topline is her back, between the base of the tail and the base of her neck. It should be straight and level. I think it would be very helpful for you to go to some dog shows. Where in Texas do you live? Here is a good article for you to read that explains the Yorkshire Terrier standard and it gives some good illustrations. I live in McKinney, Texas. But really close to Frisco. I will check her topline. Only fault that I can see is she never puts her tail in the right posistion. I just looked at her topline. Unfortunantely, It has a slight upward curve in the middle. |
If she is from a petstore I hardly dout she will have any champions in her line, she is most luckily from a puppymill, your very lucky if she is healthy! I would just have her fixed and enjoy her, I have never heard of showing a dog from a petstore and I definitely wouldn't even THINK about breeding her because you have no idea where she came from and her backround. Your still very young, at 11 years old I don't even know if it's legal to breed dogs or show them? And by the time you would reach of age to do those things she would be too old, but it's great for you to research and help out a breeder or someone who shows and learn. Good luck! |
I agree it is best to get her spayed. Petstore puppies are just meant to be pets, not mommies or show dogs. Maybe for fun you could do agility training or work toward Canine Good Citizen certification. Have you thought about those options? Also you could spend time teaching elaborate tricks and games. It is alot of fun and creates a very special bond between you. Good luck! |

If you read another one of her posts in a thread she mentions she is only 11 years old. |
I'm really sorry hon, but I agree with the what others have said. But lots of things are more important than being able to breed her - like is she a good companion for you? So she is not a good breeding prospect - so what! Just love her and enjoy her and if this is the path your heart is leading you then get involved in showing and learn all you can, there is no rush if you are only 11 and you'll have lots of fun in the process! |
Peopls can be mean on websites:( |
I certainly hope you don't think anyone is trying to be mean. We are just be honest with you because you asked our opinion. The truth of the matter is that it takes a very special dog to be a show dog and it costs thousands of dollars just go to shows to make them a champion. People that breed show dogs usually sell their show pups for thousands of dollars. As for the breeding, your female is small and it could really hurt her to have puppies. You parents just might no be aware of all the risks. I have been raising yorkies for over 12 years and I would never consider breeding a female under 5 lbs. I do wish you the best of luck with your little girl. I know she means a lot to you. |
