Topknot Waterfall I hope this isn't too silly of a question, but what is the general consensus for the topknot waterfall when it comes to showing? At what age do you stop? Does it have anything to do with the length of the hair? Also, is the purpose of the waterfall to convey to the judge that the dog is a puppy or is it simply because there isn't enough hair to do the second bubble over the bow? :scratchhe Any info is greatly appreciated because I am lost on this one lol! |
I do the waterfall until they turn one year old. Then I so the fold over topknot. Yes, waterfall look is for puppies. T. |
Thanks Tina. This is what I thought too. What sparked these questions is because someone mentioned to me recently that I should consider doing the fold-over on my pup because his waterfall was too long. I am trying to figure out it this has merit or if I should continue doing the waterfall until a year old. Hehe--now I am on a mission to understand the purpose of the "waterfall" :D |
I do not think the judge would mind if you folded the hair back, since it will be longer. You do not want the topknot hairs to take away from the expression of your dog. If it is longer - than go for it and fold it back. It won't hurt. Not that I am aware of. :-) |
i have shown my pups UKC and AKC with waterfalls altho I never knew they were called that. LOL I do that until one year. I have "heard" that AKC does require a proper folded top knot over the age of one. Don't know if that is true or not either. All the standard says is that the hair is to be pulled to the top of the head and secured with a bow. Not exactly in those words. But it says nothing about the pouffy little topknots we all struggle to make. On the other hand, I have show 8-9 months old pups with proper topknots and they were sooo cute. Some pups at that age just don't have the hair to do it. |
well crud I Just learned how to do this ..I swear I need a Prof Yorkie groomer to hold a class ..the big handlers just scare me LOL so i wont ask |
