Handler info needed Does anyone know of handlers in the Houston area. I am getting a show prospect on Saturday....I'm so excited. I really hope to show him. His pedigree is awesome. I want to find a handler to start working with him. My breeder is really impressed with him, she said he has definately got the personality. I waited over 6 months for a show quality in her litters. :p One other thing, I have Shyloh who is pictured in my avatar. What do you think of her. She has very staight line across back. Good ears set!! Beautiful coat.....Do you I could show her? She just turned 1 year old. |
Congratulations on getting your show prospect. How old is the puppy you are getting? There are some dog shows in Beaumont, Texas this Friday, Sat. and Sun. If you get a chance you might enjoy going to watch. There are not that many Yorkies entered. If your new yorkie is still a puppy then you have plenty of time to look for a handler. I would recommend handling classes so you can learn just the basics of handling so you can start training your puppy at home. Most handlers won't take on a yorkie until they are over a year old and are almost in full coat. You might also want to contact the Greater Houston Yorkshire Terrier Club. There are some great show exhibitors in that club that could help you. We will be looking forward to seeing your new baby. :) |
I can't really tell much about Shyloh from your avatar. She does appear to have a pretty face. I would recommend you have her evaluated by show breeder. Does she have champion bloodline? |

My baby Boy I posted pics of my new boy, he is 3 months old now. I pick him up Saturday. He has 91 champions in his pedigree. I posted his sires pedigree. I tried to put the photo's in this post but pics were too big. I put them in an album. Joymason is some in his line. You can see my puppy in my photo album. |
very nice pedigree and gorgeous puppy!!!!!!!! Congratulations.:) |

Shyloh's line is Durrer's, Rothby, and Kesar's Goldie Hawn. Thats just a few in her line. So yes she has numerous champions in her line. She came from a show breeder. She has a very straight and shiny coat, it's turning to a dark steal blue. It is going to stay darker. She also has great ears, if you look in (MY GIRLS) album you can see her over the last year. |
saw the pics of your show prospect boy in your album. He is beautiful. Wish you best showing him in the ring:D |
Stryker is a very cute boy!! I hope he does well for you!! I would go to handeling classes and show him yourself until his hair is floor length. Then put him with a handler. It will save you some $$ by waiting for his hair to grow and you will have lots of fun with him as he grows up. Who knows, you may enjoy showing him so much that you wont want a handler!!LOL I love your girl in your avatar! You might have alot of fun showing her and its at least good practice. Best of luck to you!! Keep us posted on how you do. |
I know of a couple of handlers and you PM me if you want :) Donna Bird Brooklynn's Yorkshire Terriers |

Years ago, the best advice I received was: If you have a nice dog and you are a newbie, get a handler. Reason; you can ruin a good dog. It was the best advice I received. However, I traveled with my handler and learned the ins and outs of training, grooming and presentation. |

I already gave her two. She also knows Brenda, since I told her to have her pup evaluated by a breeder/exhibitor. I'll be seeing you in a couple of weeks. Mary |

Thanks and a question Thanks for all the great info...I am really motivated. I looked 6 months before getting Stryker, and I've read and research EVERYTHING for years now!! I do that with everything in my life....LOVE THAT INTERNET!! My first yorkie was Bella, She's a wonderful yorkie and I adore her and what she lacks in pedigree and conformation, she makes up for temperament and spirit. I learned a lot from her, the good and the bad. YT is a great resource for information. I just want to do things in the best interest of my babies. I love Yorkies. I'll keep you all posted on his progress. I am going to Beaumont this weekend so I will check out the show. Does anyone know where is going to be at? I am very familiar with Beaumont. I grew up in the area. Thanks again.:animal36 |

By the way 6 months is nothing when looking for a show dog. It took me years. I studied, pedigrees and breeders until I was blue in the face, went to countless dog shows, talk to breeder/exhibitors until I finally found mine and knew that I wasn't only buying a show dog, I was buying a breeder/mentor. I was told not to buy a show dog from anyone unless there was at least 10 generations up front in their pedigree and was someone that had showed and finished Champions. |
Fail or Suceed, I'm in it! Quote:
I know he may not ever be able to be shown, I not that niave. However, after much research on the champion lines he comes from I am please with him. Of course everybody has their opinion about what they want in their yorkie. I beleive Stryker has potentail, as does his breeder. I value her opinion, she is on YT all the time. She has more knowledge than anyone I have ever talked to. She could have sold me a yorkie 8 months ago. But she didn't want to just take my money. She genuinely cares and I haven't seen that often in my experience with breeders. Also one note I bred GSD for 11 years, I trained them in tracking and schutzhund. I attended schutzhund trials with judges from Germany all over the US. One of my pups is a search and rescue dog. Yorkies, however, are a (horse of a different color).....so going from 100lb shepherds to a 5lb yorkies is all new to me. I am anxious to learn and only want what's in the best interests of my yorkies and the Yorkshire Terrier breed. All I can do is try. Fail or succeed the lessons learned are valuable ones. |
