I am thinking you can't show a yorkie with floppy ears, can you?

I have never seen a yorkie with floppy ears in the conformation show ring. It would be considered a fault and the dog would most likely never win. You can show in obedience trials though.

Thanks, I don't suppose there is a way to do this on a 2 year old is there? Not that I mind his adorable floppy ears but it was a thought I have been throwing around lately.

No, at this age the chances of getting her/his ears up now is too late. You could have tried when s/he was younger. Many times when a pup is young their ears may go up and down during teeting. This is why it is important to keep the hair trimmed off the ears during this time. It also might be necessary to tape their ears during this time of teething (age 8 weeks - up to about 4-5 months). If the leather of the ear is too thick or if the ear size is very large - these ears may become folded/flopped over. Chances in this later case is hard to get this type of ear to stand no matter what. But by the time the dog is older and ears are still down - they will almost never go back up. I have heard you can put impants in, but why. I would never do this to a dog, nor can they be shown if the ear has an implant.

I have also heard that dogs can also get braces too for their teeth to correct a bite now. But the vet dentist requires the dog to be spayed/neutered to do the braces. So this way you could not show, just in case. We had a dog dentist speak to my club once. It was all very interesting. They would put braces on dogs that had a bad bite and had a hard time eatting. This way you could correct the bite allowing the dog to eat better.

What are obedience trials? I am super new to all this and this is my first small dog that I have ever owned.

This is all very interesting. I just happened upon this site today and I am getting so much information. You girls are great. My dogs name is Rocco. He will be two on the 22nd. I personally love the floppy ear look. It makes him looks soo sweet.

He could also do Rally, which is a lot of fun too. If you go to the AKC web site you can find out all kind of information there. Is he AKC?

I have heard of a few occasions where dogs over a year old had their ears taped and they come up. Is your dog from champion bloodlines and have outstanding qualities besides the floppy ears? A dog has to be an outstanding specimen to be a show dog. A silk coat is of the utmost importance, plus proper conformation and proper movement. If you are really interested in showing maybe you could attend some shows and learn more about showing then perhaps one day you could get a show quality dog.

It sounds like you have a very sweet baby. We would love to see pictures of him. How big is he?

He is registered with AKC. His name offically is Rochambeau.

I just weighed him here with me unoffically and :eek: he weighs 9 lbs. I am shocked! He is due for his shots and physical so we'll see then but I did notice he got a little stocky this last year.

LOL....it looks like we all have the same ideas and are all posting at the same time.

Sometimes just keeping the hair shaved will make them come up. I have heard that freezer tape works well when taping ears. Good luck with your baby and please be sure to share pictures. :)
