Need help with caring for the top knot.... Can anyone of you who show tell me what you do to protect the top knots? Zoe's seems to be getting tangled over nite and some of her hairs have broken off in spots and I'm wondering if I put some kind of oil or vaseline or something in it, will it help or if not, is there any other product that will help? |
Have you tried just using scrunchies at night? It is not good to leave elastics in overnight. and once it starts breaking, it is hard to stop it. So the best protection is to take out elastics at night and just use the tiny baby sized scrunchies. |
I have read on some other threads that some people actually use wrapping papers--like the kind you can buy in a beauty supply to protect the hair when you perm it--they put the paper around the topknot, and then put the band on top of that. I don't know if it works or not... |
It does work if you are growing out a show coat, but really isn't necessary for pets. |

Fortunately, we wrap Maltese topknots in little papers so it protects the hair. You can use a little Cholesterol conditioning cream. I use it to tame the stragglers. Lady has dry eye and rubs her face now so it breaks the hair around her eyes. |
