Denali Got Her Wraps On
 

I guess it's sort of like coming of age. Denali will be 16 months old tomorrow and has reached the time in her life when it's time to do the wrap thing. Do you think hot pink is her color? Now we have to keep the puppies from chewing on them.

Yes Denali is an outdoors kinda gal. She loves nothing better than to play fetch with Dad. In order to protect the ends I wrapped them. For now her facial furnishings are doing pretty good on their own. She's in oil as well.

Sorry this is a stupid question, but what are the wraps for? I have never heard of wrapping a dogs hair so i was just wondering if its something i should be doing with my yorkies.

Not a stupid question. It's to protect the hair. She is growing show coat and the hair must be kept off of the floor so that it doesn't get torn.

So do they keep in in all the time??? If so are they good at leaving them in?

They do stay in all of the time though you have to redo them occationally throughout the week. Denali isn't messing with them at all but the pups (14 weeks old) occationally want to chew on them. For a show dog wraps and bands are just a part of life and they seem to deal with them very well.

Okay thanks for clearing that up. She is so beautiful too by the way..... I have never shown a dog so i wasnt sure what the wraps were for. You have been a big help and i have learned sooo much more about these little ones. Thanks again!

1. Was her coat to the floor?
2. Pics showed me number, but not how to do it...
3..Do I use the bakery paper?
4. Rule of thumb, how often to I change them???

I know how you feel lol I can't keep them in mine...Little Sofie is the Princess of pulling our others around by theirs...She will WAIT for you to turn around as soon as I put one in and there she goes tugging...I tell her as soon as I put one of our Yorkies down on the floor...Sofie no pulling ponies...Turn my back and she's running toward their heads lol...No wonder I can't get them to grow...And her's is bad too, she will not keep one in now for nothing, hers is such a mess by her eyes...Yes they drive you nuts and keeps you very busy. It's nice to know I'm not the only one chasing them all day long lol... Hugs, Lee

1. Her coat is about an inch from the floor. It's just long enough to get good and torn up in the grass and playing fetch with Dad outside is her favorite thing in the world!
2. Try Cookies take on wraps, she explains it pretty well. Jon-An's Yorkshire Terriers (How I wrap a show dog)
3. I tried the bakery wraps but found that they broke Connor's coat. His is a soft silk, it's a bit on the finer side. I use the wraps from coordinated canine and am trying the new ones from the finishing touch Dog Bows, Show Dog Bows, Show Dog Leads, Dog Diapers, Yorkie Bows, Piddle Pads, Show Leads, Dog Carriers
4. I check them every other to every third day. It depends on the coat and whether or not you have it in oil. I wouldn't go longer than 5 days. I've been told by Barbara Beissel that if you have a good heavy silk and a great wrapping jacket you can go 2 weeks but I'd never try it.

LOL...I would suggest some bitter apple spray on the wraps to discourage chewing and/or a wrapping jacket at least until they get used to them and leave them alone!...

I too have tried the bakery wraps on Quaker but the bands tend to cut throug the wrappers and break his fine coat...I was using the plastic wraps up until a couple weeks ago(they were better than the deli wraps) and I just recently bought some rice paper wraps...So far they are working great on his coat...They seem to stay put without digging into his coat...

Jackie honey mine are not in wraps lol...This is just a pony tail on top of their head...I don't call them topknots for I haven't gotten that far with their bangs lol...But I truely need help...I want the long coats on all 4 of them and now NONE of them will leave ponies in...Driving me batty...I just ask Tami if she thought I should get one of your wrapping jackets for Galahad...I'm thinking I might have to get 4 of them lol...But what about their top knot what do I do for that??? They pull each others out...Their own out...I don't want to have to crate each of them...I have them paired now 2 in the living room to run and 2 in our Yorkie Room...HELP....I want LONG COATS, LONG BEARDS, LONG MUZZLES...I love LONG Yorkie COATS....I know I don't show but I have a something about the long coats that I just love and want so bad...Any help??? Actually the litter was named after cars. Denali is a National Park as well isn't it? I love the sound of the name, it rolls well. Her name is LadyHawk's Dancing in the Dark but she has a personality as big as the Denali.

Yeah, the Native name for Mount McKinley is Denali. Some people tried to get the official name of the mountain changed to that, but the government said no and appeased them by changing the name of the park from McKinley National Park to Denali National Park.

I like the sound of it too. The translation is "The Great One," which certainly fits in your pup's case!

I like Denali better than McKinley, it's much more lyrical. Besides McKinley is (I presume) a man's name and a man did not make that mountain.

Exactly. It was actually named after president William McKinley, who, I believe, had never seen the mountain.
