Do you ever need help? This is kind of a wierd question but I am a really young mom with one child that will soon be ready for school! This means that I should start having a bit more free time on my hands. I have such a passion for yorkies and have spoken with my fiance in about showing and handling when my daughter gets quite a bit older (we are not quite there yet:) ) I have been trying to think of ideas on how to fill my days when Emmy starts school and I was wondering if people ever need help with there dogs, I know that alot of work and prep goes into showing and breeding, but would I be crazy to offer help with any and all tasks in exchange for the knowledge and expierience of learning. Kind of like a free apprentice;) Just wanted some thoughts. |
help I tell you..if you lived near me when I had my Yorkie kennel, I would take you up on it.. Most people have to start as kennel help, cleaning, bathing, feeding, exercise etc...showing and breeding comes later. Good Luck |
Thankyou for the reply. yes, I was thinking that, cleaning, bathing, exercising etc. Just learning and getting to be arround the dogs would be rewarding to me. I know that just taking good care of one dog can take up some serrious time so I can only imagine how time intensive this "Hobby" (if you want to call it that) could be. It is not completely silly of me then if I can find someone near me that would like some extra help? |
You might put up a card in local vets offices looking for breeders..you may have to think any breed to get started..ever thought about attending dog shows to meet breeders? Might take a bit of time to make friends and earn trust..good luck |
Thankyou again for, I have attended a few local shows to see if it would be something of real interest. I am more interested in showing than breeding but I guess with one comes the other. I tend to be a researcher so I like to have a good idea about what I am doing before I do it. I will definately follow your direction thank you. This will hopefully be my first opportunity to do something for me in the last 4 1/2 years!!! Time becomes a rare and precious comodity when you have young children. |
Here is a link to infodog and the shows that are coming up in Washington. You might also check with the local kennel club or breed club if there's one in your area. Working for handlers or show breeders is a wonderful way to learn. Good luck! InfoDog List of Pure Bred Dog Shows Held in WA |
