question about teeth and showing? hi everyone. my emma is almost 9 months old. she has a great bite and great teeth except for her right canine baby tooth has still not fallen out. her adult tooth is basicly in all the way. i was wanting to start showing her but do i need to get the tooth taken out by the vet before we start showing. if so does anyone know if she has to be put under anestesia or can they do it while she awake. i am so nervous if i have to put her under for one little tooth. it seems like its loose some days and then not others. i try and wiggle it everyday but still it hasn't come out. thanks for any advice. |
No vets will do it without putting them under . Can you just imagine how she will suffer if she is awake ? |
I showed Denali before I had her last puppy canine pulled and she took WB. I hated to have her put under for just one tooth as well but didn't want her bite to get messed up. They did a sort of twilight sleep and she was back home and eating before I knew it. |
It took my Yogi until he was about a year old before he lost his last baby canine tooth. I recommend getting a cow ear for her to chew on and that will hopefully speed up the process. As long as the tooth is not effecting her bite then you can wait another month or so. In the mean time enjoy showing her. I wish you luck in the show ring. |

dental We have vets here in Florida clean and scale without putting them under...they advertize as a "new method"..makes me laugh because at one time that was the way all dogs teeth were cleaned...as to removing a tooth...they can numb the gum ,as with a human and pull it...mine did not even react...BUT you have to know vets who practice in this manner...call around. AND..you can show them with an extra puppy tooth or two...good luck |
I am sure all will be well with his teeth. The good thing is its not on the judges side so I doubt the judge will notice if the permanent tooth does not straighten out perfectly. I have heard of some breeders that have all of the puppy k-9's pulled out prior to placing dogs in show homes. Apparently the theory is that most puppy K-9's will not fall out on their own and if left in will throw off the placement of the adult k-9's when they errupt. Has anyone else heard of this? |

Has anyone else heard of this?[/QUOTE] In most instances this is not the case, I have left K-9s in on quite a few dogs and never had a problem with the bites. If you want to remove it but are hesitant about putting them under, try this: Run your thumb nail down in between the 2 K-9s putting pressure on the back K-9 which is the baby tooth. Move in the same direct in which the tooth is growing. (Easier to show then to describe!!!) Do this several times a day. This will help loosen the tooth so that it will fall out on its own.
