Just learning I have a some questions. I guess like everybody else. LOL :DHow would you go about looking for a show hopeful puppy? Would you look at a site like the Onofrio site and see who the breeders were of those dogs listed? Would you look to someone on here? Would you be better off to get a young dog say a year or two old instead of a 3 mon. old puppy? :confuse2: My daughter is interested in showing at some point and I am trying to study and learn as much as I can. We are going to an AKC show this weekend just to see what it is. It is here in our town and our 4H group is working it. We are the pooper scoopers.:lol tears I really appreciate your feedback on this. |
I would visit as many dog shows as possible and hopefully speak with some of the exhibitors. |
I would recommend you try to find out if there are any show breeders in your area. Hopefully you will meet someone at the dog show. What is the name of the show you are going to this weekend? Is it a AKC sanctioned show? I hope there are plenty of yorkies there. You could also talk to some of the show breeders on YT. There are some that I think would be very trust worthy and they could give you some honest advice. There is a lot of work and money that goes into raising and showing a yorkie but it can be so rewarding. I also recommend you go to the YTCA website and contact some of those breeders. I wish you the best in your search. |
I am not exactly sure if it is sanctioned or not. This is our first time to ever attend. If you want to visit the website here it is Grand Traverse Kennel Club P events at the bottom of the page and then click the premium list. |

Yes, we went all 3 days.:tired: It was fun and interesting. There was only 1 yorkie. We missed it showing on Sat. because it was at 8 a.m. and we had a girl in our club was showing at the same time. The Yorkie did get 1st place for the group it was it in but, did not make it in for best of breed. They were registered for Sunday but did not show. I did get to talk to lady that breeds yorkies and she said the one that was showing she knows the breeder and that she has some pups available. The one thing that made me leary was the fact that the breeder of the yorkie also breeds Maltese and Peks. My understanding is that that is not the best of breeders please tell if this is true. Thanks for asking. |

You might look at the YTCA site and find a breeder in your area. Do not be in a hurry!!!!! Look at lots of breeders and their dogs before deciding on a show prospect. I think there are quite a few YTCA members in Michigan. |
