Thinking about putting London in a show....
 
The problem I have is that I don't know much about the whole thing. London is 3 months old. When is the right time to show her and in what categories? Also how much does it usually cost and where are the competitions held? Any other information you can think of would also be helpful.

Start working wiht her some now - getting use to a lead. You can start showing when she turns 6 months old. I recommend puppy class. Cost is about 25.00 per day to enter. Check with either AKC events or Jack Onofrio Dog Shows, L.L.C. for shows in your area and the closing date. You have to start somewhere - I just jump right in and learn as you go.

You seem very knowledgeable about showing dogs and all that it entails. Can u tell me where you get your leads and which one is most comfortable? I want to see if my girl will walk on one, she is very smart . thanks

Excellent advice. I would add putting her on a table a few times per day to help her get used to it, and take her places with lot's of activity. The best way to learn about showing is at the show. Find a club in your area that offers a show class and attend, but also attend a few shows and see how it works. My first experience at the show was eye opening. Sonja and Riesha let me sit and watch as they prepared for the competition and gave me a wealth of great advice. They completely changed my opinion of "show people." Later, when I entered my first show, one of the ladies I was up against helped me fix my topknot right before I went into the ring. I only have one show per year close to me so I have to travel to show and that is the biggest cost for me. I'm still learning but having a great time. :cool:

If possible before you enter a show I recommend you have your dog evaluated by a knowledgeable show breeder. Conformations classes would be very helpful. Have you ever attended a dog show?

thanks for all the advice guys. I haven't been to a dog show but I watch them on TV all the time. I don't really want her to become a top show dog since she only has limited registration, but just to say that she had been in a show. Maybe just one or two a year would be fun.

You should really try to attend a dog show, they are a lot of fun, especially the really big ones where there are lots of dogs and lots of vendors. Unfortunately, since you dog was sold with limited registration you would not be able to show her in conformation but you could show her in obedience I think.

Yeah, she could do obedience or agility with limited registration...but not conformation.

You can show her in conformation in the non-licscened class. this is kind of like the Novice class I think. pretty ribbons but no points.

Dee, I not sure but I think that class is for UKC shows and not AKC. I have never been to a UKC show but I would sure like to.

You are right it is UKC but wonder what all those classes are in a Sactioned B show. I know they allow all ages from 4 months up to adult. I just got one of those little books a day or two ago from jack Onfrio shows and the Sanction B which I thought was strictly a puppy match, is right after Best in Show and has classes for all the way to adult. i bet it's something similair. well someone will know.

I have not been to a Sanction B match in probably at least 30 years but from what I remember they pretty much followed the same rules as the regular show except they would allow 3 to 6 month puppies. I think you still have to have a AKC number if the show is being sponsored by a AKC sanctioned club.

Do you know if someone had a puppy that was AKC limited registration, could they register it with UKC with full registration? Just wondering if she could do that.

No she can't because you have to send a copy of your AKC certificate (which shows limited) and a three generation pedigree with your UKC application. They are a good registry and unlike so many, don't let just anything in..
