3 Attachment(s) 4 week puppy |
I had a boy in my last litter that did that. Went straight to gold. Never broke to the "normal" silver. I don't know if it means anything, but just wanted to say that I had one do that. |
but did he stay gold and was his coat right silk or soft or hard silk? |
2 Attachment(s) We have seen this with our puppies before and I freaked out a little..lol. I was afraid they were going to be soft coated..lol. In our experience they tend to have some silver begin to intermingle with the black and tan on their heads when they are 8-12 weeks old. The puppies that had this at this young age seem to develop the thicker, slow breaking coats...which I adore. They had fabulous color and are so easy to grow and care for. This is the kind of coat our Elvis has. Our current puppies Hope and Magic did this, they both appear to be silky and are 18 weeks old. I will attach a picture of Magic. Katie our 7 month old puppy also had this at that age. She has an awesome coat and is breaking to such a deep dark steel blue...I love it! I will attach her picture too! Katie's picture first, then Magic! |
i will have to keep you ladies updated as they grow so we can see what happens chaz the father is a very dark steel blue and a very gold head mother is the same this was a line breeding so it kind made me wonder but it is grandfather on chaz side great grandfather on mothers side i am hoping again:D |

4 Attachment(s) Yes Elvis is from Europe and he is the sire to these pups. The puppies with this in the past did clear on their head and do have a silky coats imo, no tangles and easy to care for, so I do not consider it modified. Well they can be dark, but when they break blue I think they are perfect for the ring...here is Elvis's coat at 2 years old. Not the best pictures, but gives you an idea. The last picture is Lia at 3 years old, she is Katie's mom who is now retired. She does not have even an ounce of European lines in her and her coat broke the same way as a puppy! She has a gorgeous heavy silky coat. BTW...you puppies are just adorable!!! |
3 Attachment(s) Well I Just Went There To Look At Them All Again And I Have 3 That Are Breaking The Dark Gold On There Heads I Am Glad Other's Have Had This It Was Really Bothering Me Your Babies Are Really Nice Thank's For The Pic Here Is My Little Guy Next To His Sister He Is Going To Be Really Small I Think And He Is The One That Is Really Breaking Gold Even The Tips Of His Ear's Are Turning |
Oh Dont Look At The Last Pic It Is Way To Blurry So Sorry |
wow love the last picture...he has such a pretty pretty coat...hehe |
I'm hoping that Denali will end up the color of Lia, I think she's absolutely gorgeous. Even if she ends up too dark to show, all of that pigment will be of benefit to my line. She doesn't contain any European lines but several dogs out of Connor's line are very dark. I've noticed that most of the Parquin dogs have this type of coat as well. It's very easy to care for in that it doesn't matt at all. Denali has been able to break it along the topline by going through the doggy door so we had to change the flap on the door. |

Denali broke at her shoulders and thighs by 8 months and is gradually breaking down her back now. It's not sudden with a line of demarcation like Connor and Preston did but is so subtle that you can't tell where the black ends and the deep, dark blue begins. I heard that judges used to wear black watch bands so that they could make sure that dark yorkies weren't black. You'd have to do that with Denali (she's 12 months old ) or look at her out in the sunshine. She's my husband's love and a joy to have around so even if she doesn't fully break, she isn't going anywhere. |
Gold I have a pup that started breaking gold very early.he is now 71/2 mths and he is gold and black.I think he has the wirey coat.but it sure is easy to care for.thick and beautiful. |

That is how Elvis broke and seems that is what these puppies of his are doing also...YAY. When I am showing a darker yorkie...I will wear a black watch to give the judge something to compare it to...in case they forgot...lol. I have also found that the texture of the coat is awesome once they break all over...feels sooo good! |
