Shampoo/Conditioner for show dogs What do you use on your show dog or recommend using? Thanks. |
I have been using Petsilk for a few months now and it seems to be working quite well. I used Plush Puppy prior but it was a bit pricey (and I couldn't stand how it smelled lol). IMHO, they both work about the same but Petsilk just smells a whole lot nicer. If you are going to have to shampoo 3x anyways I prefer to do it with the less expensive and better smelling one! ;) Remember, no conditioner on show days! :D |
hehe...thanks for the info...MeiLing is only 4 months right now and i am thinking about showing in the future and wanted some opinions on what type of shampoo and conditioner to use...currently i am using MinkSheen as the shampoo... |

Why? I thought the products rule only applied to things like hairspray? i have shown AKC and UKC both with conditioner in my dogs hair. I never heard of this before. Thanks |

Well that makes sense. Thanks Tami. Now if I could just find a GOOD anti static spray. I have not been able to find any that really work. |

I use the Vellus Anti Static Spray right before we go in the ring. I was using the vellus shampoo and conditioner on show days, but have switched and am using Loreal Vive Pro Style & Body Infusing shampoo only.....so far I am very pleased. (I was told I was over conditioning.) I do a once a week conditioning using Biolage Conditioning Balm - where I put in the conditioner and heat it with a blow dryer and wrap the pup in a warm towel and hold them for 20 minutes - then rinse and put them back in oil (summerwinds protect a coat). |
When Mingtoy arrived home , she had Vellus products in her puppy kit . |

I just caught this thread and thought I would put my opinion on here too. :) I of course use Pure Paws. I'll run you though a show day grooming session. :) First I bathe with the Bright Shampoo (it removes all the dirt, grim, and oil (very important)). Then I use the Reconstructing Shampoo (which puts the essential oils the coat needs back in). Then I normally use the Deep conditioner (it is ok to use conditioner on show days (or at least this conditioner)) Just remember not to get conditioner on the top knot. I rinse only about HALF of it out. Then I start with the judges side and blowdry completely!!! Very important. I try and keep the top knot wet, because then I use the Volumizing Spray Gel (this stuff works freaken wonders for the poof, and doesn't leave the top knot crusty or gummy). Then I "loosley" put the top knot in a band. At the shows I start with her legs and tummy spray a little of the Shine spray and brush. Then I do her top knot. And at ringside I finish with Shine spray or Show Spray depends on the weather and the ring conditions. If it is inside I tend to use the Shine (it is a heavier spray and keeps the coat from looking like a pom.) If it is outside I use the Show Spray and at the end do a fine mist of Shine (mostly for the Shine it gives the coat). Then we hopefully win!!! LOL Hope this helps. Roni |
