How does one go about buying a champion? This is a serious question...I work full time to pay for the breeding, which is a serious hobby and substitute family, I guess. I love the breeding, pampering mothers and playing with puppies. I have a few really nice dogs but can't pull it together enough to get to the shows--always short of help on that front and am now thinking that the only way I'll get a champion in this lifetime is to buy one all finished. Once again I have a couple of lovely litters that no doubt have a potential champion in them, but the training, grooming, ect, overwhelm me...Does anyone else out there feel this way? |
champion There are breeders who sell finished champions...some ask a big price for an average dog. Quite frankly, if you have the money to buy a champion, I would buy a terrific show potential puppy from someone like Durrers and hire a handler... |

I would too if I could find a show person that would sell me one. I have recently been emailing a well respected show kennel but can't afford the 4-5000. she is asking for her puppies altho they are just gorgeous. |
I agree if you can afford to purchase a finished champion...buy a great show puppy and hire a handler. In my experience there is a local puppymill that purchased a champion from a kennel on the west coast for a good hunk of change. So apparently if you have the money you can get one...so sad! |
Thank you for your replies... I've been in touch with the KY exhibitor and am seriously considering her dog. It's hard for me being in New England. There are not many exhibitors here and I'm spread thin to try to get out to the shows and meet them...They've been very nice to me so far, though. I have some wonderful puppies right now--combinations of Parquins, De Majodian and Padawis and am confident I'll get a show prospect out of there, but then comes the problem of finding a handler--again very few around here. I have a great male that should have finished two years ago--local handlers were booked...I'm just really anxious to have have a finished Champion to show people when they come to my house. So few people know what a good Yorkshire Terrier is supposed to look like... |
