Advise on show pup please!!! I am looking at a one year old male that is absolutely gorgeous and perfect in every way EXCEPT......he has a reversed scissor bite. Is this a big no no that would keep him from finishing?? What are your thoughts? Laura |
bite He has an under bite and most judges will turn thumbs down...BUT more importantly, why put time, money and work into a male you would not want to breed...and if you decide you only want something to show, why waste your time and money when you will lose most of the time..losing gets so old after the first 20 times or so... |

Ok, Ok...gets kinda discouraging talking to show breeders, though. They talk at first like they will sell you a show potential. Then because this will be my first one they decide they dont trust a newbee and they dont want the dog "wasted" on me. Thats OK, I'll find the right person and the right dog and I'll see them in the ring. I understand where they are coming from, but then again, I dont plan on breaking a contract. I got a bit scalded by a well known show breeder, so I'm getting rather afraid to ask anyone to trust me with one of their lines. But if I am going to show, I want a nice dog!! I dont want 5 or 10 kinda nice dogs-I want one really nice dog that I will be thrilled to show. This dog really was perfect; except for the bite. But you're right. I dont want to lug around a dog that I cant finish. That would be discouraging too. I'll wait. Thanks ya'll.:) Laura |
When I posted "scalded", I was trying to say I ended up feeling embarrassed for wanting one of her dogs. She didnt cheat me in any way, she just changed her mind about allowing me to buy one of her dogs. I understand where she is coming from, but then again, I know my intentions as well. It was just disappointing. Unfortunately, it will probably happen again, so I best toughen up. |
Trust me, I understand it can be hard getting to know a breeder, I have tried to help people and have been burnt and almost every breeder has been thru it, thats why we have our guards up. I have also helped people and have been blessed. I believe you have good intentions and with patience and persistance you will find what you are looking for. There should be a lot of shows in your area that you can go to and start mingling. Also I wouldn't completely rule out a breeder in another state. But do your homework and visit the YTCA.Org to give you some contacts and don't limit yourself to just trying to get to know one breeder. Look at the type of Yorkie you like and then build a relationship with the breeder. If the breeder won't allow you to get to know them at all, then thats not the breeder for you. Laurie, Hang in there gal and don't settle. If you truly want to show do not waste your money and your heart on a dog that won't be what you want in the end. If my little guy doesn't turn out to be what you need I'm sure we can help you find one that will. There are breeders out there who are willing to help newbies. We remember the precious person who took a chance on us. It's worth the wait for a dog you can take proudly into the ring. There is no feeling like that first win, wait for it. |
