My Show Hopeful 4 Attachment(s) I'd really like to hear what you seasoned exhibitors think about this boy.... My main concern is his tail. It's not a nub but it's not as long as I would like it. We're working on our stacking, I think I need more help than him lol. He's only 8 weeks old, but I'm going to be watching him in hopes of showing. I'd really appreciate any critique on him, as I don't want to "stick my head in the sand". Also, I've searched and have found a few tips for working with puppies. If anyone has any would you please post them...I don't want to start off on the wrong foot. Thanks guys! |
Oh Susan, he is Stunning!! You know I don't know much about showing, so I'll leave that to the experts. I am also anxious to hear what they have to say. He sure is a handsome guy and looks perfect to me, I'm jealous girl! :D |
Tail I have a 4 month old with the same tail...I let the co-breeders vet dock it and he had no clue. Personally, I would not let it stop him...go for it..I see some mighty long ones and then some South American Yorkies with shorties like that...I thought I might be able to tease the end a bit and add an inch...good luck with you male...where in FLorida are you? Our Gold coast club will have a speciality in July... |
It's hard to tell much from a pic but I can tell you what I see. I see a good ear set, nice topline, and nice coat. Watch for attitude and movement. Most judges will not count a shorter tail against him since it is man made but it can impede a balanced look. As far as working with him keep it fun at this age, stack him at least twice a day. Let him drag around a lead and begin bait training. There is an excellent article on bait training puppies in the Dec./Jan. issue of YT mag. Take him to a puppy match and show him off. Have fun with your little fella. |
Thanks to those who responded and pm'd me. Great advice Tami, thanks. Pat, I'm in Tallahassee Florida. Our club is having a show at the end of February that I'll be attending. I'll be having to do alot of travel to Orlando I'm sure. After dwelving into the handling aspect the behind the scenes work ie, lifting. I'm not sure that I'll physically be able to do it with fibromyalgia. I believe I could do it in the ring but not the rest. Hopefully my husband will help with the rest. Anyway, I'm considering getting a handler. I'll talk to some of the professional handlers while at shows and see how they handle their clients dogs. Do you know of any in this area, Florida and Georgia or how else I can go about finding one? |
It's so hard to tell from pictures, especially with an 8 week old! From what I can see, I like his ear set and face. I wish I could judge his topline better, but that can change a lot as he grows. So far it's looking good. I would do as Tami suggested and keep working with him and watch him as he grows. Have fun! |
So beautiful:) |
pup I use a handler or used one I should say...mine retired. You have lots of time to decide...grow coat, go to handling classes, matches and shows..get him ring ready and win ready..a handler can be worth their weight in gold to those who need them..best wishes |
he is so beautiful!! Good Luck! |

I think he has a very sweet face, nice ear set and the sweetest eyes. It is very difficult to tell conformation from the pictures. My first show female had her tail docked too short by her breeder, and I did what Pat was explaining...just teased up the coat at the tip of the tail and then smoothed it out to cover up the teasing. This helped her appear more balanced as she was a leggy girl so the short tail made her look even taller. However it did not help her confidence in the ring..lol. |
