Ear set Why I like the youngest one is. "This is my opinion" The older one looks to have the ears tied up. This is legal in someplaces but not here. The younger one looks like this is her natural ear set. So it makes me wonder what the ears really look like on the older girl... |
I would like to show her and I do realize the tail could def get in the way of that. I know a vet that would do the tail docking for me. She would obviously have to be put under for it and the healing would be much different than if it were to be done on a 3-day old puppy. So I am taking this into consideration. BUT, I am also hoping that maybe I could get some show puppies out of one of them so I can start from scratch. I would hold the puppies until they were 6 months to a year and have them fully evaluated by at least one judge and start from there. Starting with a 12 week old puppy and HOPING that she could be good in the show ring is a huge gamble. Plus I would rather have an older dog at this time, I just want another little fur baby as well, MiMi would love a playmate! |

I would ask for casual shots of the dogs just on the ground free stacking with no lead etc. and no topknot so you can see natural earset. I have noticed one thing about some of the dogs I have imported is like the pics here they have their tongues out. This really hurts in the show ring. I have experienced that myself. Also ask for a video clip of them moving. If you do a tail docking it is a full surgical proceedure at this age and you will have to find a vet that can leave as much hair on that tail as possible to put her in the ring ASAP. I had one docked and had her in the ring in 3 1/2 weeks. So it is not impossible to do. Do you have your male already that you will be using to breed her with or will you be going out for stud? It will take two nice dogs to give you something nice for show hopefuls as I am sure you know. :) Good luck on your decision. Deana |

She would be of course bred to something of very high quality, lookswise and HEALTH! Still no guaruntee that I will get show puppies from them, but I would have a good chance and I wouldnt have to spend loads of money numerous times on numerous puppies when I can just save the whole litter for me and a very experienced judge to evaluate. I am just trying to get off on a good start! |
pick It is popular to tie ears in Europe..it is a given fact. Doesn't mean her ears are down..just means they be more wide set then the photo reveals...I always ask people to send natural pic's, forget trying to make the dog look perfect...shwo me the ears without the top knot in...shwo me pic's of the dog standing on the floor looking at the camera..no lead, as already advised..profile, side views.. You are starting the way I did..I was never anxious to show someone elses's breedings. Buy the best bitch you can get, breed to the best champion you can that compliments her..keep all the pups for yourself until you are positive..and when you go in the ring, you go in with an entry bred by you.. I look at who bred the dog first, THEN who is holding the lead....LOL Others find it best to buy a quality show dog..it is whatever works best for you. |
Do you have the pedigree on the puppies? Not trying to be judgemental, but I just find it interesting that a reputable show breeder would sell their puppies on petfind.com. I wanted the best quality possible to start off and it required a lot of searching pedigrees and looking at different bloodlines. Then it took me almost a year to convince the breeder to let me adopt a puppy from her. It was well worth the wait and the effort and now I will wait for a little girl from the same bloodlines. Just be careful as it could wind up costing you more in the long run..Good luck to you in your search. |
both dogs are gorgeous. I have no show experience so i can't help you there. However as i was reading about the tail needing to be docked if you wanted to show i was wondering if you knew the tail would need to be shaved and all that hair would take a long time to grow back out. Having the vet shave as little as possible would be ideal for you HOWEVER it is not sterile and a good vet will want sterility over beauty. The body is being cut open, even tho it is a tail there are many blood vessels in the tail of an adult dog. She can get an infection or worse. |

Pat, I didn't know that tying ears was common practice in Europe.....I know that I was shocked when I purchased the Top Knot tape from Sweetie Blue and a European Breeder demonstrated how to do it. |
2 Attachment(s) While I do believe a lot of backyard breeders and puppy millers advertise in classified ads and what not, I do not think its fair to think that just because you advertise there means they arent a good breeder. It all comes down to screening, for buyers AND sellers. I have writen to many people asking about their dogs and had questions, you can usually tell right off which ones care about their dogs. It's very hard to find a good breeder over the internet and know %100 of what you are getting. There will always be risks involved. I have checked with many breeders in my local area, many of which only breed fad "teacups" or those that dont want to answer my questions or get back to me or help me in finding what I am looking for. Therefore I am kinda forced to take the risk of searching elsewhere. Here are some pictures of Riviera, I believe when she was younger, because as you can see the blue is darker on her face. But you can tell in these pics that her ears are ok. |

As long as the area was sterilzed I dont see how it would be any less sterile than if it were shaved. The vet would just have to make sure the area was clean and flushed out before he sutured the tip, I could be wrong, even though im a Vet Tech student, I am no vet! Say he does have to shave, I have no problem waiting for the hair to grow, how long does the hair on the tail have to be in order to look normal for showing? |

we've had show and agility clients ask us NOT to shave for a fracture repair or knee surgery because they don't want to wait for the hair to grow back. they're crazy. they rather have the beautiful hair instead of a sterile surgery field with great risk of infection or worse outcomes. |
