Dog Show rules and requirements First off Hi everyone I'm new here, and I was wondering if anyone could give me some info on the basic rules and requirements for showing a dog? Or where I could find this info. I don't really know anything about it at this point but it's always been something that has interested me, so any info would be appreciated Thanks |
Go to AKC.org |
Yes I've looked at there site and I didn't really find any of the finer details I was looking for, and since I saw this thread I just thought I'd ask around here. I was looking more for answers to things like (this may seems like a silly question) can A dog that is neutered or spayed still be shown, and where is a good place to start? For a beginner who wanted to start showing dogs. |
They cant be shown in conformaton. That is for evaluating breeding stock. Neutered/spayed dogs can compete in obedience, rally, earth-dog and tracking/hunting/retrieving competitions. These are also AKC events. |
A couple of years ago when I first started thinking of showing, I e-mailed akc and asked for any/all info on dog shows. I'm not sure if they still do this or not, but at that time they mailed me some pamphlets that were very detailed. Hope this helps. The addy is orderdesk@akc.org |
Akc has all kinds of brochures about "getting started' for free and then there are several that cost like a dollar each. it lays the rules and regulations out in a simple way you can understand them. it also explains about the point system and etc. good luck!!!!!!! I recently showed my first dog and it was such fun. She was Novice but still I loved it. |
AKC has begun a new program...AKC reps are now providing instructions and help to Novices. These are being held at a show site and before a dog show begins. Spay/Nuetered dogs can only participate in Obediance and Agility events. Reading material is nice...but, it only makes sense when you finally get in the ring and begin participating in the sport. I would suggest that you order the rules and regulations from AKC. Familiarize yourself with them. |
Welcome to YT !! where in the North West are you! There is a show today and tomorrow in Salem Oregon at the fair grounds. If you want to learn about dog shows, the shows are the place to be. People just love to talk about dogs at the shows. My boyfriend goes to the shows with me sometimes and he has met so many people and learned so much about showing , just standing around by ringside chatting. |
Thank you guys for all your info, I'll check in to all of it, I'm in Portland Dray, lol I wish I could go but my husband and I are pretty busy this weekend, how often do they have shows in Salem, or is there site or somewhere to find out when they have them? my mom lives there and I do go down fairly often, and I know she's interested in at least seeing the shows too so that would be really fun to do. |
Try http://infodog.com/panels/or.htm. This is the info.dog site that has information for each state. Good luck. Hope you find some shows you can attend. |
