Refusing to walk on the lead... Here I am again... needing more tips! This little girl just won't walk on the lead. She is extremely stubborn. She's happy and bounces around here like a queen. I can put the lead on her and she will walk around with it, dragging it. But the minute I hang on to it and try to encourage her to walk with me she instantly plants her feet and butt and will not budge. I've tried treats, praise, someone standing in front of us calling her, leading another dog infront of her. She is 9 months old and prior to her coming to me, she wasn't worked with on the lead. It really feels like this is a control issue. I feel like she's trying to show me that she is the boss, not me. Is there a way to break them of this? |

I tried that. Bingo is so strong on the lead and I was just sure she would follow him. She didn't. |

Scroll down a little right under your thread and find mine titled, "Show leads" I got a lot of good info about leading. My girl was the worst. She has completely overcome it and did great at the show last weekend. only flopped down a couple of times. Nothing workds with her. treats, toys nothing. When she is done, that's it . I was scared to death to put her in the ring but she actually did super for me. I intended on letting her rest Monday then start training again but broke my anklee Monday night so yesterday was the first time working her since the show and she hadn't forgot. |
Awe.... I hope your ankle is better! I read through all of the posts in your thread. Do you think this is more of an age issue right now? She's not going into heat, but I know she could be at any time now. |

Yes, I knew that about not taking her during heat. That happened to us at our last show and Bingo went nuts. |
You are allowed to show your girl when she is in heat, yours will not be the only girl at the show in heat. You can not show in obedience but in the conformation ring it is okay. Just let the judge know she is in heat so she doesn't get her hands all messy. It is a challenge to show them at this time and it is a trick to get your males to behave at this time but it is all part of showing dogs. When I took Tailor to Canada to finish him there the first weekend after winning winners dog the winners bitch behind him was in heat. The next weekend the Specials bitch in front of him was in heat. I had my hands full for sure. By the time you enter a show you never know for sure if your girl will be in heat, and what if it breaks a major for you or someone else... Just my thoughts on showing in heat, in a perfect world , the girls would only come in heat in between shows but it is not a perfect world...... |
