Leaning back while stacking... I've got a little female that I'm working with. When I stack her, she plants her front feet and then leans back. I can't get her to push forward. Any tips on how to get her to stop doing this? I don't know if she doesn't like where I place my hands or what. |

I hope this helps |
I've never done baiting before, but this one has made me decide to try it. Right now, she loves Beggin' Strips, so I'm breaking off teeny pieces of those to use as praise. I've done the swaying with her and that results in her putting her feet up on my hands. When I did it though, I had my hand under her jaw like I would normally. I wonder if that's what she's resisting. Is it possible to just place my hand between her front feet on her chest? She's definitely a stubborn girl. She just sits down or lays down when I put her on the lead and won't budge. So we're taking it easy with that. I'm going to try baiting her for that as well. Thank you guys for the tips. I knew there had to be something I could do! |
stacking Try stacking from the opposite end of the table...put the back feet on the back edge of the table, if they lean back they feel no table...if they put their foot back they realize they have nothing to stand on..mind get the idea fairly fast...and when you go back to stacking in at the front end of the table, all they remember is.."if I move back I fall off"... |
Now that's a really good idea too. I will try that with the bait and maybe she'll quit being a stubborn girl! |
pat, I thought you had to put their front feet near the front edge of the table. So, you can put them anywhere on the table? The back sounds like a good idea. |
I think she's talking about putting them at the back edge of the table for training purposes. Then putting them to the front edge for showing. |

Another trick is to pull their tail which will naturally make them lean forward. |
