Seattle area dog pound - yorkie mix up for adoption |
He is so cute! I think he will find a home. |
He looks like a lil sweetie that needs a loving home, maybe lil Gucci would like a BFF, have you thought abut it? |

We did go to the pound last Tues to look at Zoey, a rat terrier mix no longer listed at the web site. So we are thinking of a second dog. The weather is getting colder, mamma has pretty restrictive parameters of when I'm allowed to take Gucci on his walks. Wind, rain, temp, any one element outside of her parameters is enough for her to say it's a no go Gucci sort of day. I understand, Gucci is old, pretty slow most of the time, needs extra care of a senior from extreme weather and such. So a second younger, maybe slightly bigger, dog was to fill in for Gucci the more inclement weather days on our 3 mile walks. #1 on the list of priorities is in no way could a new family member, dog, be allowed to adversely affect Gucci's position. From what I've experienced in the past, that's a bit of a roll of the dice. Introductions of the two dogs are short, Gucci loves every dog we meet on the trails or on the street. BUT, LOL, what would happen if we actually brought a new dog into "his" home? This pound's policy is once you bring the dog home, if a situation pops up where it isn't going to work between the two dogs you can bring the dog back but you don't get your $275+ back. Tues night, while we were still thinking about adopting Zoey, I received news of my mother's passing back in Helena, MT. |

Another one popped up today, Conner, another mixed yorkie? He needs a hair cut! :D Conner | Seattle Humane Society (one more would be our max) |

Sorry to hear about your Mom. |
Thanks. Here's the poem I chose after reading at least a hundred others Tues night: She Is Gone You can shed tears that she is gone Or you can smile because she has lived You can close your eyes and pray that she will come back Or you can open your eyes and see all that she has left Your heart can be empty because you can't see her Or you can be full of the love that you shared You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday You can remember her and only that she is gone Or you can cherish her memory and let it live on You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back Or you can do what she would want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on. written 1981 David Harkins 1959 - Silloth, Cumbria, UK Read at the Queen Mother's funeral 2002 I chose it because it was the most Fitting, she'd want me/us to live life as best we can. Being read at the Queen Mother's(Elizabeth's Mom) funeral seemed fitting as well, when mom was young she looked a lot like Jackie Kennedy, Queen of Camelot. Jackie Kennedy: Queen of Camelot Video - John F. Kennedy - HISTORY.com So looking around at other shelters in the state, there's quite a few yorkie mixes out there. I'm thinking 10 lbs tops, wouldn't want one more than double Gucci's 5 lbs. It would be great if I could find one with erect ears! Gucci's ears are so expressive, they show what he's concentrated on, whether he's relaxed or tense, happy and alert... When he takes the lead off leash on the trail, his ears get so close together, I can see how focused he is walking down the trail. LOL Today, a dog and his owner passed us up on the trail.... all of a sudden Gucci found a burst of speed for a long ways that left me breathless! I kept up the whole way,,,but.... yowzer! He had been hiding a bit of reserve from me earlier. It's possible another dog would do us both good. |
So sorry to hear about your mom, the poem is beautiful. My aunt who raised me, was closer then a best friend or sister could ever be, Nov. 22 will be one year she is gone. Not a day goes by that she is not in my thoughts. I hope you don't mind if I keep this poem in memory of her. You are very courageous to be able to visits animal shelters and walk out empty handed lol, I am to weak, I would take all those poor lil babies home. I can understand about the no $ return if things didn't work out between Gucci and a new dog. I think a younger dog would be good for your boy, give him extra energy as he displayed on that walk. Conner is also a sweet looking lil guy. It's wonderful you are considering adopting another lil furbutt, so many sweet babies out there looking for a loving home, and you are a great adventurous dad. Good luck on your quest for the perfect buddy for your lil Gucci. |
Thanks. Help yourself to the poem, I just grabbed it off the net of course, google is grand at times. There may be other poems like it, emphasizing that the deceased would want us to move forward and not get tied down by sorrow for too long, I couldn't find another one though while searching Tues night. Of course it's easier said than done, moving forward, but, well, we should try... Sorry about your aunt and brother. It wasn't the easiest thing to leave the animal shelter without Zoey, but since I didn't feel 100% sure she was the one, I don't regret leaving her in good hands, the humane society runs it now rather than the county or city. They place so many dogs with new homes that they bring dogs from Eastern WA, Yakima for instance provides a large number to the Seattle animal shelter... about 150 miles one way. I'll keep checking the different agencies occasionally, if it happens, it was meant to be. If not, that's ok too. I guess, I dropped a couple of posts in here to show other YT newbies like myself that there are lots of options if you'd like to give a home to a friend. Animal shelters in neighboring cities could be searched as well as the ones near home. |
Hi Mark, So sad to hear of your mother's passing. Sending prayers. Yesterday, my daughter adopted a beautiful little puppy (read-it's going to be a humongous male great Dane) from Saving Paws of Wa. It was love at first site. She has been looking since her beloved Bernese Mountain passed earlier this year at 14. So now another dog has a great, loving home. I hope you find who you are looking for soon. |
Thank you. Glad to hear! I'll find Saving Paws and check them out as well. |
I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. I'm glad to hear that you are looking into adopting from a shelter. I live in Eastern Washington and have helped transport dogs to the west side to get adopted. We just don't have the same population here, and we have tons of dogs. I have helped many dogs get pulled from a local kill shelter to go to Seattle and find homes. It really is rewarding knowing that you are saving a life. Have you tried PetFinder for pups? They only allow rescues/shelters to post and always have tons of yorkies and mixes. |
Thank You Michelle. https://www.petfinder.com/pet-search...=100&pet_name= |
