The adoption fees are different for every animal, it really depends on how much goes into each animal. Leah is the only one I have left in rescue right now and her fee is 200

I was looking at some "rescue" sites listed in this section that charge as high as $1000. Price coincided with age, younger = more, older = less. I notice the rules in this section limits adoption to $300 max. :thumbup:

NEVER will I have a rescue that is above 300. Never. Are you kidding me, are these people rescuing or making a living? That is just wrong on so many levels

Oh Yes you will pay a whole lot more if you go to a reputable breeder.

Hello everyone. So today I get a phone call from a life long friend who asks me if I could take 2 poms into the rescue, apparently the people who owned them moved out but they seem to have forgot them. Makes me so mad. She brought them to me, they had no water or food for at least three days maybe longer, no heat and she said the house was full of feces and urine. They were so scared, the female was trying to bite everyone. I quarantined them, fed them, gave them fresh water and left them alone for a little while. Went back to them, let them out of the x-pen to go potty and run around a little, and what a difference. They wanted love and the young male wanted to play. They are going to be shaved tomorrow as they are so matted the matts are actually attached to the skin. They are going to the vet Thursday morning and we will have them checked from top to bottom. I fear the female may be pregnant. I fear the medical bills will be bad but what can I do, I could not tell my friend no, I could never do that to an animal. Wish us luck as I am sure the rescue is going to need it now.

Unless you are a rescue that does full vetting which includes dentals and also orthopedic surgeries, liver shunt repairs, etc; please do not try to say that a rescue is making money because of their adoption fees which may be higher than you can imagine.

You are an independent just starting out and I would advise you not to bash the efforts of established rescues. We are all in it to save pups...and to bash any other group when you clearly don't understand what is going on is "just wrong on so many levels". The large, established yorkie rescues all charge around the same amount although I have seen some that charge more than YHR...but the bottom line is that what you are quoting as adoption fees would not work for any of those groups because of the nature of what they do.

I don't know what rescues are being referred to here but I suspect YHR may be one. YHR does charge as much as $600 for a rescue and they still often don't break even. Right now we have a pup who just had bladder stone surgery, another one getting ready to have liver shunt surgery...and yet another one who may have a liver shunt. We just found this out after we got him. You really never know for sure what you might run across in rescue. I wish you well and hope you won't be slammed with huge vet bills; but in my experience, it is rare to run a yorkie rescue and never see some huge bills. Certainly WAY over $300 which you seem to assert is your max amount to spend. Heck, to run blood work, do a spay or neuter and also a dental which most will need, will be up around that much. I hope you have plans for what you will do with a liver shunt pup or another problem such as that. Being a reputable rescue is extremely difficult and expensive if done correctly.

He may be referring to some rescues. Our group charges more than $300 for some pups (our max is $600), but we do not list them on here for adoption. We have a website and an online adoption application for that purpose. And, there are rescues that charge as much as $1,000 and even more.

I was in no way trying to bash anyone, or any rescue. I do fully vet the ones that I get, spay/neuter, dental, fecal examines, heart worm test and etc. I do not do the liver stunt and all that as I know that is expensive. I would not bash a reputable rescue, ever. I would however bash someone who is not vetting their animals and asking very high prices. So sorry if I offended anyone.
