Missouri bustin' There are a lot of puppy mills going down in Missouri right now, six (that I know of) since January...I'm sure there are more. IF you live in Missouri and you have room in your home to foster a dog, or if you live in Missouri and would like another dog, please contact the SPCA, Wayside Waifs, or the numerous other Missouri rescue organizations - or go to petfinder.com We are one of the biggest puppy mill states in the country and the shelters and rescues are almost always inundated with a lot of these dogs and their babies (puppies). Some are purebred, some are not...but ALL are in need of homes. Many of them are listed on Petfinder.com along with their respective rescue they're at, or the foster parent's name who is a volunteer with that rescue. People always say that 1 person can't change the world..I've even said that. But 1 person can change that 1 dog's world. Here is just an example of what we have in our shelters and rescues - Wayside Waifs had one very similar to him just a short while ago as well (that one found a home). Petfinder Adoptable Dog | Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie | Raytown, MO | Toto He's gorgeous and only 9 months. He's not a puppy mill puppy, but he is at a rescue and is an owner surrender to a shelter. As of last week, there were at least 20 Yorkies (mixes also) on Petfinder Missouri and that was only a search within 50 miles of my zip code - 20 Yorkies (and Yorkie mixes) in 50 miles.:( Please take a look - you just might set your eyes on your new best buddy. I honestly don't know where these puppy mill dogs and puppies are going to go in a few months if this keeps up - there is no room for these babies. I would have taken all 5 of the ones that were with mine if we could afford veterinary care for all 5 which we cannot...just one! I'm not trying to sound like some fanatical animal rights activist nutjob. I just want Missouri citizens to know that there are a LOT of Yorkies in our shelters - some of them are purebred! Some are tiny, some are tea pots, some have vast health issues, some are perfectly healthy. |
