Winston- Special needs 4 Attachment(s) Ok, so I know I mad a thread for all the yorkie/yorkie type dogs that I see at Operation Kindness (Carrollton, TX) but this guy has grabbed my heart big time so I figured he needed his own thread. Winston was pulled from the city shelter- he was a bit of a mess but happy and friendly enough. We are estimating him to be 2 years old. I fell in love with him when I shaved him down- even my own yorkies are not that great for grooming. He just sat there and let me do everything! He didn't put up any fuss and when I was done he gave me kisses :) Winston is a playful little guy with a happy little spunk about him, I think he would be great with kids and he is a bigger yorkie- probably 12 pounds(he also needs to gain weight) His special needs is his hips. He is going to be looked at by the vet Monday and we will know more but for now we are thinking possible hip dysplasia. Hopefully he will not need surgery but he will probably be prone to arthritis later on. If he does need surgery he might need someone to foster him. This is a really sweet dog who deserves a forever home. Here's some pictures- the first one is when he first came in. I love his one ear folded over! Here's the website to the shelter he is at: http://www.operationkindness.org/adopt/dogsearch.php |
AAAAWWWW he is so cute!! Let us know what the vet says about his hips. |
Oh my he is such a cutie. I hope he finds a home soon |
What a handsome boy :) I hope he finds his forever home soon! |
Sorry in the delay of an update- poor Winston has still not had his x-rays :( Is there any one in the Dallas area that would be willing to foster this baby? I hate to see him sitting here waiting. He is getting depressed and hardly eating. I could fast track you to be a foster home- pm me if intrested. thanks! |
Oh, he is so cute! I hope he gets into a foster home/forever home soon! He looks like he will make a great pet. Such a sweet face. |
Prayers needed for Winston! He is not doing well :( He has not been eating and is down to 8 pounds. If he doesnt start eating by wendsday they might need to put him on i.v. They can't xray him because they are worried about giving him sedatives. I am taking him home until then :( |
sending prayers for Winston. He is such a cutie:) |

He is adorable I hope he is doing ok.....any update? |
he is being treated for pancreatitis and doing better, I hang out with him before I leave everyday and he is always so happy. It is going to be hard to find him a home though if he's got a sensitive stomach AND hip dysplasia (still no x-rays but I'd be surprised if it wasn't) He is such a great dog though, very well behaved, I can't imagine him sitting in the shelter for long once he's available- we will have to see. Thanks everyone for your well wishes! |
I hope he finds his forever home real soon// he sure is a handsome guy |

Oh what a sweetie! I would foster him in a minute if I were closer! Prayers to him though! |
Hes adorable! I would foster him if I was closer! |
If you think it will help we can post him on Lulu's page she seems to have more interest out that way than in the west. Let me know |
Update: Good news, we finally got x-rays and he does NOT have hip dysplasia, it is an old pelvic fracture that has healed and will just always be that way. Also he has gained a little over a pound- we are up to 9.5(on the first he was only 8.1)! He is eating like a champ and as happy as ever! The doctor wants to keep him on cage rest for the week just to make sure he is going to make a full recovery but all looks good, he should be up for adoption next weekend! @llcornell- I think that's a great idea, spread the word at least, I would hate to see him sit at the shelter much longer |

Can you do a little bio with photo and i will post it |
posted it on lulu belles page :D thanks! |
Wow, I'm excited for Winston! Congrats ChibiLuv; hope we can get some more pics of Winston as he gains weight and becomes healthier. I'm curious... for someone like Winston who was scared and didn't eat, would you require him to meet his potential furever owners a few times first so that he'd be comfortable with them when they rescue him? |
he is really not scared- I think he had pre-pancreatitis (or something similar) and that's why he needed to be on fluids but he is the happiest friendliest little guy. He was a little weird with my Fiance, Fred, but Fred was weird with him (when Winston growled Fred he just stood there unsure what to do) when Fred acted normal Winston was fine. Winston met another man today and was totally fine with him, licking him and wagging his tail, it might be because Fred is tall and kinda has a deeper voice too, who knows- maybe Fred just freaked Winston out because he was being weird with him. Winston came to my house and fit right in right away. Through the adoption agency we don't really do 'trial runs'. Basically you just adopt them and take them home that day. I would love the future adopter to keep in touch with me though....I really have grown attached to the little guy. |
how is he? |
his weight has leveled off at 9.3 but he is doing great, the vet wanted to recheck his xrays this Friday to make sure his bones didn't move but if all looks good he could finally be up for adoption this weekend! I was so hoping he would be out f the shelter by now but I guess its better to be safe than sorry and make sure his hips look ok, I got to see his xrays from before, poor little guy, his pelvis is totally in the wrong place, but I guess as long as it doesn't hurt him he should be ok. |
Great news- recheck with the vet went great and Winston is due to be available tomorrow- here's to hoping he gets adopted quickly! :cheer: :D :cheer: |
Great news! Winston went up for adoption and quickly found a forever family. His new mommy has been without a dog for a while and immediately fell in love with Winston's happy disposition and adorable face! He will be a spoiled only dog with a back yard to play in and some older kids to run around with. I was so happy for him I almost cried! It will be a little sad because I used to see him everyday, I am glad he found a family to love him though- he deserves it! |
Awesome news for Winston! |

What great news!!!! <3 |
thanks for sharing him on lulu's page- maybe more people will check out Operation Kindness- we really do have a lot of cute yorkies come through here and a bunch of other hypoallergenic types. I am always surprised to see how many cutie pies we get....but then I am super surprised Lulu is still looking, if I were still in CA I would be grabbing her up in a heartbeat :D the grass is always greener, huh? |

I think its always surprising how many great dogs need homes. Somehow there are always more dogs than homes sadly! |
