Special Needs Male Yorkie in East Texas 1 Attachment(s) I am looking for a loving home which can meet the needs of a special needs Yorkie. He is 3 to 4 years old (vet estimate) and has a liver shunt. He requires medication every other day. He is very small (2.5 lbs). He does have some issues with controlling his bladder. I have remedied this by using a wrap. However, my husband has not been using the wrap and seems to forget despite any way we try to help him remember. Since he is at home more than I am, this is leading to a very unsanitary house which isn't ok for little kiddos. He is a sweet little man named Tiger. He is full of personality and love. He is a great cuddle bug and gets along well with other animals, as long as they understand how to play with him (since he is so little). He is often found cuddled up in a blanket or giving you kisses. Let me know if you might be interested and able to care for this sweet little man. |
Though the pic is blurry, he looks REALLY cute! Please post the amount if you have rehoming fee. The fee in this section cannot be more than $300. I do hope you find the perfect home for him :)! |
Thank you for the info. I will get another pic and post it. The fee is $100. My main concern is finding him a loving home. |
Picture 1 Attachment(s) This is a better picture of the little man. |
He is so sweet....I wish I could take him, but I know nothing about liver shunt and would be afraid I couldn't provide all the medical care he needs. I hope you find a good home for him with someone who can give him a great life. |
Yorkie Thank you! For anyone who would like to know what his specific needs are for his liver shunt- Caring for him is relatively easy. He takes one pill every other day, eats a certain food (which is easier on him), and we do not allow him to eat any other foods (especially table scraps) or he will get sick. Other than that, he does really well and doesn't get sick at all. His biggest need is to have a wrap on :) I have read that it is not uncommon for a Yorkie with a liver shunt to have issues with controlling his bladder, and I would say that is what causes the most work. But, as long as you keep a wrap on him he does great. He is actually pretty cute with it on :) |
Does he need surgery at some point? What will his future look like? |
Surgery has been considered, but decided against because he does so well on the combination of diet and medication. The surgery (from what I have learned from the vet) would not be risk free and would be very costly. The vet has said that he would likely live a long and happy life with the combination he is on. He has lived 2 years since then and has not had one complication. He has gotten into my Boxers food, and he has not gotten sick. He once got into "people food" and he had bloody stool, but was ok after it went through his system. The only symptoms I see on a daily basis now are that he eats a lot for such a little guy, he is bony, and has trouble controlling his bladder. |

aw! what a cutie- hope he finds a home real soon! |
Have you considered a Reputable Yorkie Rescue ? as they do very good screening, in home checks & vet checks & would make 100% sure that all of his medical needs are met. Rescues also have legal rite to remove a pup from any adoptive home that they feel may not be working out for the pup. I would not hesitate to surrender a pup of mine to a Reputable Rescue if needed. |
What a sweet little face....I would take him in a heartbeat, but alas I'm too far away. |
I have great news! United Haven Rescue has agreed to take my little man in. They are finding the perfect foster home for him. I am so sad to let him go but so happy to know he will be in loving caring hands. Thanks for all of your help! |
Wonderful news!!! |
