Yorkie 5 Year Old 4.5lbs Available for Adoption in San Diego 1 Attachment(s) Hi All, I am putting my 5 year old yorkie Gizmo up for adoption. I've had Gizmo since he was 8 weeks and due to my current living situation and circumstances beyond my control I am unable to provide Gizmo a loving and conducive living environment. For the first 4 years of Gizmo's life he has never been away from me for longer than a day so you can imagine how difficult it is for me to realize and accept that this is what is best for Gizmo. I do not want any money for Gizmo as this is not an issue. What I do want for Gizmo is a loving and responsible individual or couple preferably without kids that will provide him the home and care that he deserves. Gizmo is potty trained but as with any pet when in a new environment he will have to be slightly retrained. Gizmo still has some baby teeth that will have to be removed (this is part of his adoption term and is non-negotiable) the reason why this is a requirement is because I need to know that Gizmo will be well taken care of is going to a home that is financially stable. He is neutered and pretty low maintenance. All he needs is an owner that loves to cuddle. Since, this is a very difficult decision for me and I need to have the peace of mind knowing he is going to be okay, I am willing to do a trail period. I want Gizmo in a home where he is wanted. If you have further questions, please feel free to contact me. Kim |
I'm sorry to hear you have to rehome your baby. My 1st suggestion would be to find a reputable Yorkie Rescue for him as they do the BEST screening for potential Owners/Homes. A Rescue will do a home/yard check, vet check, follow up visits & they have a contract that if broken or they feel the home is not working out for any reason, they have the rite to take the dog back. Also I would NOT advertise him for free as that puts him at great risk for unscrupulous people . |
Wish I lived closer. He is adorable! Pam |
Please put this baby with a Yorkie Rescue so they can screen adopters and do home and background study so they can place him in just the right home. |

Super advice! So very sorry it has come to this for you.....thank you for having the courage to do what is best for Gizmo....I would most definately look at a good, reputable Yorkie rescue....the screening prospective owners must go through is unbelieveable and ensures Gizmo will find a perfect, loving home! |
have u found him a home yet? |
I live in San Diego but I already have two dogs. I think the rescue is the best idea as they are picky about who gets their pups. My second dog, a maltese, was a rescue and they came to my home to inspect the inside and outside. I know how hard this is for you and wish you and Gizmo the best. |
2 Attachment(s) All - Thank you for taking the time to respond. I have been going back and forth with individuals that have expressed interest in Gizmo but unfortunately I feel so weary. I'm not sure if it's my paranoia of placing him in bad home or if this is just all together a bad decision. I have reached out to a Yorkie Rescue site that is located in San Diego and will try to work with them to find Gizmo the best placement if that's the route that I decide to go. I am not in a rush, therefore, I have been taking my time weeding out the good and bad. The problem with Gizmo is he's lived a very sheltered spoiled life. When he goes out he has to be on a leash. If he's not on one, he'll take off and won't return. Knowing this and being as anxious as I am already about this entire decision. I feel like his new owner will not be able to protect him like I did. I'm just really in a tough predicament right now. But thank you all so very much for responding. It makes me feel not so bad of a person. Hugs, Kim Here are some more pictures of the little guy. One is with him laying with me on the sofa (longer hair) and one of him just being pampered at the Spa (shorter hair) |
Oh he is such a cutie! I know it's a hard decision to make, but if you choose to surrender him to a reputable rescue, he will be in good hands. Please research the rescue thoroughly if you do decide to surrender him. There are people who pose as rescue and turn around and sell the dogs to the highest bidder. Reputable rescue will wait until the perfect family is found. Good luck. |
Believe me, you are not alone in having a yorkie runner. This is why a Reputable Yorkie Rescue would be best as they know ALL about Yorkie personalities & tricks & often they have repeat adopters as they know who takes care of their pups & who does not. I believe someone posted earlier about a Rescue in SoCal & they have members here on YT & have been around for a long time so I would contact them for sure. You are rite to be cautious not just because he's a runner but because he's a Yorkie & Every Body wants one , but have no clue how to care for one or know anything about the needs of a yorkie. |
Kim, my Gina (RIP) and Zoey are just the same as Gizmo. They both were on leases because of the "rabbit" in their blood. I know this is such a hard decision for you to make and I wish I know of a rescue group here in San Diego but I don't. I got my maltese from the "Bichon Furkids Rescue" and they are local. Maybe if you contact them they can refer a reputable yorkie rescue to you. Please PM me if you have any questions that I might be able to help you with. Cherie |
Soooo sorry you have to rehome him. I would go with a good rescue to. I know this is tearing your heart apart to do this. Just make sure you are doing this for the right reason's. Poor baby will be so broken hearted wondering where his Mommy is. Hope you find a solution soon. Hug's from a Yorkie Yaker.:ghug: Here's a group hug for you. |
