Linda I have no words beyond our conversation last night. I know you will do right for Gabby, no matter what. Hugs. |
I am so sorry to hear this. I am praying for little Gabby. |
My vet spoke with the specialist and we are now waiting for the MIC (minimum inhibatory concentration test) to be completed. His suggestion was to use that as a guide for treatment. The eColi is resistant to everything but Tetracycline and Primor...but even those are not really effective against it. Hopefully when the MIC is back whatever antibiotic the staph is not resistant to will also work for the eColi. There really is nothing else suggested at this point. Our plan is to try and pray a lot....if we cannot get rid of this it will eventually go to her kidneys and then systemic. Very depressing. BUT...I am hopeful. |

Linda, This is so sad that she continues to have problems no matter how much love and treatment she receives. I know your heart is breaking for Gabby. Hopefully there will be a miracle and she is restored to health. Either way I know you ALWAYS do what is best for the pup. Prayers & hugs for you both. Marcy |
I'm so sorry little Gabby is sick. Sending prayers for u Linda and Gabby. I know from being a foster parent to children, u put your heart and soul into their well being. I don't know you personally, but from what I have read on here that is what u do. You and Gabby will be in my thoughts and prayers. |
Thank you so much all of you for your kind words...and for prayers for Gabby. The results came back on the Staph infection and the one drug that will work is Amikacin. It is an injectable antibiotic and she will need to go to the vet daily for 2-3 weeks. My vet was off today so her partner called me...they will confer tomorrow to iron out the plan; but I think it will end up being given intravenously. It can be given subcutaneously, but he said it burns. I do not want her to have any ill effects...if giving it IV will be easier on her, that is what I will want for her. It is a drug that can cause some issues so she will be monitored closely. At this point we have no choice. She could end up in renal failure from the treatment, but will definitely have renal issues if this infection is not cleared up. We are also waiting on further testing to see if perhaps the Amikacin will work for the E.coli infection. I will post more tomorrow when I know exactly what my vet wants to do. |
