We just posted Gabby's bio on the YHR site. Thought it might be good to put it here as well so that you all can see it. :) It pretty much gives an overview of what she is facing. ----------------- 1/14/11 - When I was born, my mother asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I always answered "an important part of someone's family". Here it is years later and many many miles down the road, and my friends in my foster home asked me what I want to be when I get a little older. My answer is still "an important part of someone's family". The best blessings are worth waiting for and I'm here waiting for you. Just realize that age doesn’t decrease, so don’t wait too long to add me to your family. Gabby was picked up as a stray by animal control because she was wandering around the streets all alone. No one came to claim Gabby and unfortunately, since she had so many things going on with her medically, and the condition she was in, she was placed on the “E” list. Some e-mails were sent around pleading for help and, just in the nick of time, YHR pulled this little lady before she had to cross over to rainbow bridge. Thank goodness because this one is a Diamond in the Ruff. Gabby has many medical issues going on currently; and we are trying to get everything assessed and see where we stand. Speaking of standing, this brings us to our first issue: 1. She has hypermetria in her hind legs - seems she is not getting signals from her brain to her legs to control them. She has a very wide and jerky stance and isn’t totally able to control it and has severe wasting of muscle in her legs. After her dental, we will schedule a neurological exam; 2. Her teeth are very bad and she is scheduled for a dental Tuesday, January 18th; 3. Gabby has an ulcer in her left eye and is on drops for that and we are hoping that there will not be any long term damage; 4. She is bowel incontinent ---- yes bowel incontinent, and will definitely be getting a follow-up on this . Currently she fluxuates from diarrhea to solid stool, but does not have any control of it. She does have control of her bladder; 5. She is on an antibiotics for a bladder infection and this should clear up soon. The vet feels certain that there was a possible injury to her back in the past. They also stated that they think that the bowel issue might be a new one. This long list of things will need to be addressed before Gabby can be adopted, but we are taking them one at a time so as not to overwhelm her and hopefully when we are done she will be as good as new, or as good as an 8 year old yorkie (with an obvious hard past) can be. She has been such a trooper through it all and we just cannot imagine how someone let this poor baby get into the shape she is in, but to each his own. YHR holds their babies in a much higher light, so she will be fulled vetted and all issues taken care of before she can join her forever home. Only time will tell with a lot of these conditions, but stay posted and we will update each time new news is revealed. |
One step at a time, small steps, but steps none the less. |

What a beautiful bio, Ladyjane. It brought tears to my eyes. |
A very beautiful bio...for a very beautiful little girl. |
Poor Gabby. I hope they can fix her all up. She sure deserves better than what she's had in the past. |

I have to tell you all that I did not write that bio...as much as I wish I could take credit for being so creative. That was written by Robin, one of our members who IS very creative. I had asked her to please write a special bio for our special girl. :) It brought tears to my eyes, too. The following was posted on another thread...putting it here as well for those who may miss it on the other one. I know I have said it before....you all are awesome! I could not say it enough. The kindness here makes some of the negative stuff we see day in and day more tolerable. Certainly restores my faith. :) Gabby actually does seem better today! I still think she has some bowel control...she actually had a BM outside today...that is major monumental in my mind. She did have some on her bed, though, so I don't know for sure that she has control. Might have been just that it came out on its own. Time will tell. Her eye looks better to me. She is a sweetie...loves to be held. Put her down and she gives you a little bark to be picked up again...very cute! :) Thank you SO much for the outpouring of kindness....it means SO much to all of us!! |
She sounds like a little cutie. That's sweet how she barks to be picked up again. :) |
Thanks for the update Ladyjane. You can tell we are all Yorkie lovers when we get excited about bowel movements. ;) Seriously though, so glad Gabby is getting the help and love she needs. I bet she will feel even better when she gets her teeth fixed on Tuesday. Thanks for taking care of this little sweetheart. |

She is going to be groomed tomorrow...I will stay with her (I never leave my pups anyway and sit and bs with my groomer). Then, Tuesday, she will have her dental. After that, as I mentioned before, the neuro stuff will be looked into. |
Well gee, I posted and thought it was in this thread. Looks like someone moved the other thread to this section. SO......guess I will just post this link .... to follow updates on Gabby, I will put them on the following link. Very confusing to have both going in the same forum. I was going to redirect that one to this forum....but it was moved. OK...probably I am not making sense at this point. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...your-help.html |
Makes sense to me. The new pictures of Gabby are darling. :) |
Thanks Linda for the updates. If I have no time to do anything else on here, I jump on to see about Gabby. :) hugs to you both |
She is looking great in just a few short days! God Bless you all for helping her! I will be keeping her in my prayers....i hope all goes well with the dental!:) |
She is so gorgeous! You are a saint for taking her in and taking care of her. I can't believe people can be so cruel to our furbabies. They are so precious!! Thank you for all you do! |
