Help Needed - I may be rescuing!!! Hi there! I recently found out about a furbaby that has been informally rescued from an abusive home. By "informally", i mean that the people who rescued her are not with a rescue organization. They don't have the formal rescue training and just did this out of the kindness of their hearts (not that formal rescuers don't have kind hearts, you know what I mean :)). Anyway, they have had the baby for less than 2 months and think she is about 18 - 24 months old. She has not yet been to a vet (but I do not know why). They are not sure whether she is spayed either. She weighs about 2 lbs. She's tiny, but was skin and bones when they first got her. She takes her time trusting people and avoids feet. So, it sounds like she may be a good fit for me in terms of her personality, etc. and I just want to find out what would be the best way for me to go about this? I plan to meet her tomorrow and then she is supposed to go to the vet next week. Should the person who rescued her take her to the vet or should I? What's the normal or best way to go about this? As always, any help would be appreciated. |
Hopefully some of the experienced rescue people will see this. Since it is an informal rescue maybe you could split the cost of the vet visit. Hope it works out for you both. |
There are really no "rules" since it is an informal sort of thing. If it were me I would probably want to take the dog to my own vet and hear for myself what they think, so that I knew upfront what health issues if any, I was dealing with before I even made a decision. Good Luck! Keep us updated. |

I just replied to your pm (before reading this) so, my suggestion would be to go visit the Yorkie first, see if you think you want to adopt this little one. If you decide you do, then I would suggest that YOU take care of the veterinary care...vaccination, spay/neuter, etc...after all you will want to do this anyway when getting a new addition to your family. If cost is a concern...reconsider adopting as Yorkie's can be a financial handful as so many of us know!;) Good luck on your visit tomorrow and please feel free to pm me if you have any questions! |
HaHa...I told her to go for it...:D and I agree she should pay for the costs of vetting... |
