Very true. So many end up in rescue because people do not realize that there are often medical issues that come up even with a puppy. Buying a puppy is not without risks. Any dog can get sick, just like a human...you always have to be prepared. Regular vetting alone and grooming is not cheap. And, let there be one bout of pancreatitis, and there goes a few hundred minimum. Yorkies need at least yearly dentals...bank on at least a couple hundred there each year. And...you have to figure your pup might live to be anywhere up to perhaps 17 years. It costs money to maintain them and that goes up as they age. |
We just adopted our little guy last week from rescue. He is almost 8 yrs old and was in rescue because his owner had a new baby and had no time for him. Freedom is a wonderful Yorkie full of spunk. We love him so much already. I am a firm believer in rescue, 5 of our 6 dogs are from rescue. Some do have a bit of baggage but we love them none the less! |
