BEWARE of puppy mills posing as rescuers Many people believe that anyone who says he/she is a rescue person is indeed looking out for the welfare of the pups. That, sadly, is not always the case. There have been some mills and byb's removed from Petfinder for this type of activity. Now...in saying that, I am not saying that a reputable breeder who is rescuing is not. I know that some breeders do rescue. One thing that a reputable breeder will do when placing a pup as a rescue is to alter it first. Additionally, any reputable rescue will alter a pup prior to placement. I find it disturbing when people call themselves rescuers and place pups for possible breeding purposes. Just wanted everyone who reads this forum to be careful when obtaining a "rescue". You might be getting a very sick, used up pup from a mill or byb. These pups also many times have major medical issues. While some of these pups that people like this promote are cheap they often are not vetted and will end up costing hundreds, perhaps thousands in vetting costs. When you adopt from a reputable person, the pup might cost more, but there will be no hidden vet costs. The pup should be fully vetted and you should receive all medical information and not have any surprises! |
Thank you for this post. I post welcomes for Newbies and sometimes I suggest they check out Petfinder but I do warn them to make sure it is a reputable rescue. Didn't know, though, what to suggest that they look for. Now I do, so thank you. ~Joanne~ |
Good information. Thanks |
Great thread! Thanks for the information! |
Great post! There are so many people out there trying to pull scams all the time. Just because someone says they do rescue does NOT mean they are an actual Rescue. Take for example what happened with Teagan. This woman took a puppy that was stepped on thinking that he would get better with a little tlc. She was not able to provided the necassary vet care and he went months without the proper treatment that almost cost him his life. His story now has a happy ending but what if she would not have turned him over to a LEGITIMATE rescue? Anyone can pick a dog up off the side of the road and say that I rehomed it which is not the same as being a legitimate rescue with a board of directors with bylaws and rules that have been implemented for the betterment of the pups life and the reputation of the organization. |
I think little forgotten friends is a puppymill We adopted a dog from LITTLE FORGOTTEN FRIENDS RESCUE and something is definetely wrong. I think they may be a puppymill. We paid $650 for this dog which was really sick. also, the dog had knee problems which they never told us about and now the dog needs $5000 worth of surgery. Noone will tell me where the dog came from. the rescue had a million puppies, most of them were sick or coughing. now the rescue will not even call us back and there are more and more puppies on petfinders. |
