Looking for a Playmate for 3 yr old Girl Yorkie Hi Everyone...I am hoping to find a "buddy" for my 5 1/2 pound female yorkie...I work during the day and would like to find Cookie a playmate...I tried to adopt a rescue but on the application when asked about discipline, I stated that if they did something wrong(Like pee on the floor) I would "pop" their little butt with a couple of sheets of paper and tell them no and take them outside and when they did their business, I would praise them..I was told that they did not want to put the 3 year old in a home where he would be "popped". I was shocked...Anyway...I am hoping that I can find a forever friend to come home with us...Any ideas??:thumbs up:animal37 |
heres one i have been eyeballing for about a week but if your interrested in him by all means!!!! Adopt a Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie: Simon: Petfinder im more than happy to try aNd help find pets homes |
I don't want offend you but you should never "pop" for poop or pee. :( That is a negative action for their behavior and considered "old school" in dog training world. I'm sorry that you were turned down for a rescue but I would suggest that you read up a little more and ask some questions here in the training forum. There was just a very heated thread last week about a man that was rubbing a little one's nose in his mistakes and boy did that get crazy  |
Thanks so much for letting me know...I guess that I am "old school" but I can be trained!! Ha!! I appreciate the link...I will look into it...I hate that I was mislead by old ways! Thanks so much...I really mean that...No more spanking! Thank goodness, I have not spanked Cookie....:) I love being on this forum..I am learning sooo much!! Wish that I had know this earlier!(((HUGS))) to all! |
you do nothing wrong.. some people act crazy, a little pop on the butty, or nose is not going to hurt them. It is not like you are bitting them!!!! You know when people started said not to pop your kids is when the kids today, is out of control!!! They talk back, and or just bad. We knew not to do that as kids, dad would have got us good!!! Now we will have out of control dogs, I quess. Good luck founding a new baby. |
Aww...I agree, Cookie DOES need a little buddy to play with. :p I will keep my eyes and ears open for you and hope you find her one soon. |

I have to admit, back in the day, I gave the little swat on the behind after showing puppies the offending mess too. I knew I was not physically hurting them and they were bigger dogs. I think a lot of people did it that way. But we change, we learn, we evolve, and I think especially for tiny-boned Yorkies it always works better without spanking. Most are so sensitive, you even have to watch the tone of your voice. I never understood the wiping their nose in the mess idea though no matter how long ago. 10 minutes after a potty mess, I am ready for some puppy loving. How am I going to do that if I have put my baby's nose in that stuff? I have learned a lot here on YT too. As we learn we change, and hopefully we all become better pet owners. "Good on ya'!" |
Thanks to ALl! You know...I am the same way...I would not put their noses in it...That is so nasty! I have learned a lot on this forum...I would never want to do that to a baby! Anyway...I hope that I can find Cookie a playmate!! |
There is a sweet boy in Florida... look in the rescue forum.. he is CUTE! |
Thanks Thanks for the Post....I am really looking for a baby closer to home...First and foremost...I want to be sure that Cookie likes him...Afterall, this will be her buddy!! (Hopefully!!)...I want them to meet and make sure that they like each other!!;) |
I am still looking...Can anyone help?? Thanks to all my YT friends!!;) |
Sadness has fallen on all of us...We went to petfinder.com and found Duncan, the Yorkshire Terrier...It was stated that he was under 3 years old and I went through the adoption process and we were approved. We went to pick him up and Cookie seemed to like him so we took him home and we had our Vet check him out to see if there was anything that we needed to be aware of and come to find out that he had a condition called nuclear sclerosis, it is a condition that only occurs in dogs over 7 years old. We were heart broken because we were not looking for a baby that old and so we took him back to her. We did not ask for any money back. I am soooo sad...I was sure that we had found Cookie a little buddy....Just needed to get it off my chest... Here is the link to see the little fellow... Nuclear sclerosis is an age-related change in the density of the crystalline lens nucleus that occurs in all older animals.[1] It is caused by compression of older lens fibers in the nucleus by new fiber formation. The denser construction of the nucleus causes it to scatter light. Although nuclear sclerosis may describe a type of early cataract in human medicine[2], in veterinary medicine the term is also known as lenticular sclerosis and describes a bluish-grey haziness at the nucleus that usually does not affect vision, except for unusually dense cases.[3] Veterinary medicine In veterinary practice, nuclear sclerosis is a consistent finding in dogs greater than seven years old.[4] Nuclear sclerosis appears as a bilateral bluish-grey haziness at the nucleus, or center of the lens, caused by an increase in the refractive index of that part of the lens due to its increased density. It is often confused with cataracts. The condition is differentiated from a cataract by its appearance and by shining a penlight into the eye. With nuclear sclerosis, a reflection from the tapetum will be seen, while a cataract will block reflection.[5] I'm not sure why the rescue did not tell you about his condition but they should have explained the above to you. The way that it is explained it sounds like it does not cause blindness or effect the quality of life of a dog. Too bad that you felt this was something that warranted returning him to the rescue. :( He sure is beautiful! |
I guess that it sounds petty...We wanted him because our Cookie is 3 years old and he was advertised as 3. After finding out the this occurs in dogs over 7, we are not sure just how old he is...We were not looking for a baby that old. It was not Duncans fault, we would have kept him if we were not looking for a younger baby. No, thank God, this condition does not cause blindness and dogs can live a healthy and happy life. We adopted him on the information that was provided on the site that he was 2-3 years old. Finding that he was over 7 years old shocked us, we would not have given him back if he was 4, but 7 is a lot older than the 2-3 that he had been written up as being...I am not plassing blame on the rescue site, they were just going by what their Vet  stated to them. After all is said and done, it still hurts us:( Quote:

I cannot believe it:2omg: I go on the link for Duncan just about everyday to see if the s**tzu rescue has found him a home yet and found that they are saying that Duncan is 2-3 years old. My Vet checked him and my Vet is very good and he stated that Duncan has Nuclear sclerosis which only manifest itself in dogs that are at least 7 years old. When we looked into his eyes, you could see the cloudiness...I cannot imagine why they are doing this...Anyone have any ideas?? I sent an email to the Vet that she stated says that he is only 2-3 but have not heard back..I am shocked...It was obvious that he had the condition known as Nuclear sclerosis. |
