Rescue Yorkie in California? Hey y'all, I am new to the group but I thought someone here might be able to help me out. My parent's adored dog is dying of cancer and asked me to see if I could find a small dog such as a Yorkie, Bichon, Maltese that needed a new home. They are 61 and 65 and my mom is has a back problem (which is why we need a dog under 10 pounds) so she doesn't work, and, therefore, is home all day. Now that I am away at school and our dog won't be with us much longer, she really needs a companion who she can cuddle and dote on. We don't want to buy a dog b/c we would feel guilty knowing how many dogs need homes and we don't want to unknowingly buy from some back yard breeder. We have a fenced in yard and my parents have years of experience taking care of pets. I have looked on petfinder and put in applications at some different rescues, but so far have not found a match or have not heard back. I live in SF so I could pick it up from here or the surrounding area, and my parents live in Fresno so they could pick it up from anywhere in the central valley. If you guys could keep your eyes open for a calm Yorkie under the age of 7 that needs a new home I would really appreciate it. Thanks guys! |
Hi. Welcome to YT. You can do a search on Pet adoption: Want a dog or cat? Adopt a pet on Petfinder. You enter Yorkie and your zip code and it will bring up all available in your area. You can also check out Yorkie Rescues and Rescues in general. Please check out the rescues too. Just because they say they are a rescue does not mean they are reputable. Working direct with a rescue I've seen quite a few lately that claim to be a rescue when they are in fact acting as brokers by buying pups from mills and then placing them as rescues. Possibly someone on here from your area can lead you to a good rescue in your area. The adoption fees range but probably you should expect to pay around $250 - $450 for your rescue and that will include the neuter or spay, shots, initial vetting, dental if needed and heart worm preventative. If it does not then please question them more. I wish you all the best. Elaine |
Thanks Elaine :). I have looked at petfinder and at rescues but so far no luck finding the right fit, or if I do, getting a reply. It seems like most of the rescues are located outside of California or are in SoCal. I am still hoping for a reply back from YTNR. |
I volunteer for YTNR and thye have alot in socal. I also just picked up a female today that hasnt been posted to the website yet. |
llcornell do you know how long it usually takes YTNR to respond to an application? |
