Need advice! Should I get another yorkie that has health problems? We have been wanting to get Jacks a brother/sister to play with. But recently, we hired a trainer to help with Jacks leash anxiety and constant barking. She told us we have our hands full with Jacks and to not think about adding to the fam just yet. But I came across this beautiful poor baby that was dumped by the original owners because he needed a special diet- he has a problem with fatty and high protein foods. It just breaks my heart. Thats so easily fixed. What do you think? Should we listen to the trainer or go with our hearts and adopt this poor babe? |
IMO food intolerance is kinda simple to manage.... I have 2 - They BOTH have their own issues, but when they play, we always stop to watch ;) I don't think there will ever be the 'perfect' - 'no problem' Yorkie - they all seem to be high maintenance to some regard. Follow your heart :p |
Well....you hired a trainer for the advice correct? ;) |

Loki has anxiety too and he doesn't particularly like strange dogs but he and Sammy are best friends. I was unsure like you, but after a few hours he realized she wasn't going anywhere and after about a week they became good friends. They pounce and chase each other and wrestle. It's good for him to have a buddy and a good relationship with another dog. She's the perfect annoying little sister. We absolutely love her! On the other hand, we'd already done 2 years of training with Loki and we are definitely to the "management" part of his issues. If you are completely overwhelmed right now I would wait. If you think you can do it, just make sure you keep in mind that he might not accept him. But if he does - what a great situation right? :) |
Is his name "Bones"? If so, are you familiar with the seller's reputation? |

I agree.  You need to get a handle on Jack's behavioral problems before you add another one. Dogs are just like kids and will pick up bad habits from one another. If you add another one now, you'll just end up with two non-stop barkers. |

OMG you just made me laugh out loud! That is SO true! |
Only you know if you can handle another one but I would question why this Yorkie needs a low fat and low protein diet. It could be something very simple or it could be pancreatitis and liver shunt which is a lot to take on if he/she is symptomatic. It could also get very pricey. |
I would wait until you have your pup where your comfortable. There are many needy pups out there and will be when your ready and availble to focus soley on the new family member. In time I'm sure you will be there for another little one. You sound like you have much love to give. How lucky that pup will be! This is JMO. ;) |
