Is this a joke?? Kijiji Phoenix I don't know if I posted this in the right place, but I read this and couldn't believe it!! Please tell me its a joke! I emailed the person and politely explained that this was a very dangerous situation for the yorkie puppy, even if her intentions are good. Why are people sooooo..... ignorant:mad: **This isn't a bash on Pitbulls, my parents rescued a pitbull/lab mix and she is a doll. |
2 Attachment(s) All dogs have the potential to be dangerous.... I have very small Yorkies.... and my room mate has a 90 lb Pitbull. In the "heat of battle", the Yorkies would outrank the Pitt on the "mean-o-meter" any day of the week! haha... I wouldn't single out someone specifically because they were looking for a Pitt/Yorkie combo - - - but people do need to be responsible in the way they handle ANY large/small housemates. The ignorance is not so much conceived in the choices people make... it stems from being ill informed and simple negligence in the way their animals are handled. JMO ;) (I know I've posted these photos before... but I like 'em... so.... ;) ) |
I hope you're just joking about the Yorkies "outweighing the Pits on the mean-o-meter". A Yorkie would not have to have its jaw broken to be made to release something in its mouth. Have you seen the kind of damage the Pits can do?! They are simply a dangerous breed of dog due to the careless breeding of the majority of their breed. Not a good mix. Nor, imho, is it safe to have a Pit in the same household as a child. I know the old argument about "it's how they're handled/raised/bred/etc", but let's face it, you don't see people fighting Yorkies or having thier children mauled by one. |

Bruno is alot meaner than ANY of my pits have ever been. And as far as having pits in a house with kids goes, I have 3 kids and 3 pits. My pits have been raised with my kids and have NEVER shown any kids of aggression. my pits are big lap dogs. I am really sick of hearing about how pits are bad dogs. There is no such thing as a bad dog, just bad owners!!!!!!! |
I'm sorry if this has (very obviously) upset you. However, if you look at the statistics...well:( From the sounds of it, you are obviously a concientous Pit owner, unfortunately, others are NOT!! I have seen, first hand, what these dogs are capable of and I seriously doubt that any other dog could do the same type and amount of damage as PitBull! I am very glad for you and your family that your dogs are well behaved. That being said, I, personally, still would NEVER turn my back on a PitBull! :( |

I'll put my two cents in. In my opinion it is dangerous to have any large breed in a house with a tiny Yorkie. There is too much of a size difference and even playing can kill or injure the Yorkie. It is especially hard when they are puppies together. Picture a 1 lb. Yorkie trying to play with a 20 lb. puppy. Big differnce and the problem is that that 20 lb. pup will play harder then the 1 pound pup because he or she is a baby and doesn't know any better. Any dog has potential of snapping and it makes no difference how they are raised. Now you decide if you want two Yorkies to fight or a Pit bull to snap or get fed up with the Yorkie snapping on him and finally go back. Elaine |
I guess you missed the point in my post where I mentioned my parents HAVE a rescue pitbull/lab mix. But she is a full grown dog that has gone through obedience and behavior training. I have nothing against pitbulls as a breed, but when you post a WANT AD on Kijiji asking for a pitbull puppy from god knows where you are being irresponsible IMHO. My parents pitbull was from a show breeder, his show bitch got let out and mated with a black lab. The breeder was going to destroy the puppies if they didn't find homes (so my sister brought her home.) But our dog didn't come from a dog fight breeder or someone breeding for aggressive behavior (which is a real problem with these breeds). My post wasn't meant to insult pitbulls and I'm sorry if it offended anyone. But this is YorkieTalk and I was just worried about fate of the yorkie that these people find. |

I have also been chased down and nearly mauled by a pit bull (that was tethered to a 75 foot chain) while I was househunting. I was alone and have no doubts that had that chain not yanked that dog back (immediately as I slid on the gravel while it was ferociously barking and chasing me and was literally 2 inches from my ass), I would not be alive today. Or I would have been seriously disfigured. On a different occassion, I also had to listen as the pitbull next door mauled and chewed a neighborhood dog in the alleyway behind my house. He had jumped the fence and attacked the innocent dog. I called the police when I heard the victim dog's cries and wails. The police arrived and had to stun gun the pitbull twice before they could unlock his jaws from the other poor dog who was just roaming the neighborhood alleyways. You NEVER EVER want to hear the sound of a pit tearing the flesh of another dog. It's gruesome. That sound still haunts me. And you certainly don't want it to be your beloved yorkie's flesh. My point is, pitbulls are unpredictable. Why people continue to take a chance with that unpredictability is beyond me. |

People who take good care of their dogs...know their dogs. You learn to expect the unexpected. as a good dog owner should. That is why there are leash laws and such. I had to buy Max from a oooohhh....pet store..... because no breeder thought I knew my Greys well enough to buy or rescue one. To those that have pittys...you are a stonger person than I...that is why I like the Greys...they are done working and just want to retire...not a working dog at all.......almost cat like......all dogs need work to make them good dogs...a good dog is a tired dog....and if you can manage a pitt...well I am proud of you!! |

I guess that the main problem is not "owning" a Pittbull, the problem is "who is owning the pitt". In the hands of responsible people I think that the Pittbulll is dangerous as any dog could be dangerous. Like I always said the bigger the mouth is the bigger the damages are. What I am afraid of in that add it is the way the person is "ordering dogs". Adopting a dog is not like calling for a pizza. So I am questioning the level of responsibility of that kind of person. |

agree I have Rock the 80 pound lab and Mia the 4.5 pound Yorkie and she is the one that starts all the rough housing She has no concept of being the little dog I have had Yorkies all my life and I know for a fact that they have no idea that they are small they think they should be in charge As we say at our house 24/7 it is all about Mia She wants you to play when she wants to play She wants you to cuddle when she wants to cuddle and this is how she is with Rock And when we go on walks I have to control her from attacking other dogs if she does not like them She is very protective of our kids, my hubby, my granddaughter, Rock and me I agree 100 percent it is 99.99 percent of the problem when a dog attacks it is the owner not the dog at fault |
