Older Couple looking to adopt.
 

I had a email yesterday from a very sweet lady who is looking for a yorkie. It just melts my heart when I see a elderly couple looking for a sweet companion. I could just picture a lil yorkie sitting on her lap while she is watching tv. So if anyone knows of a yorkie who needs re-homed, please let me know.

Here is the email I got.

I live in Elkhart and I'm retired I'm looking for a yorkie and I thought maybe you would know where I might be able to get one at a decent price my husband and I don't go much and we would like to get a small dog.I'm 71 and he is 75 we both love animals and I think it would be a good thing for us to have.You sound like a person who likes animals so if you could help me out please write me back please.

Hi, you could direct the couple to check out Petfinder.com: Adopt a pet and help an animal shelter rescue a puppy or kitten. as well as Yorkie rescues in that area and another good spot is puppymillrescue Home Page. At their age they would be better to get an older dog (senior). I know my parents were this age when they lost their Collie. My brother and I went to a Collie rescue and found them Mr. Mcduff who at the time was 8 yrs. old and beautiful but no one would look at him due to his age. The poor guy had lived his whole life with a family then dumped at a pound at only 45 lbs. He was very regal and he was so appreciative that he had a good home. When my mom became very ill he stayed at her side 24 hours a day. When she went into the hospital for a few months he would cry by her bed waiting for her. When she came home she was in hospice and Mr. Mcduff again never left her. They had him about four years before he passed. I think part of it was a broken heart with my mom always in the hospital, but never the less he needed her and she needed him. Rescuing an older one is so rewarding and I think that would be perfect for this couple. There are plenty of older Yorkies in resue as well as on petfinder. I hope it works out for them:) Elaine

I have looked at petfinder. There was a yorkie-poo in the area. I will keep my eyes out for them.

She is from Elkhart IN

She says she can only afford around $300.

Says she would take a older one as long as it was nice lol

She wants it to be fixed or she said she will have it fixed.

I have a 2 yr. old male I would let go for 300...but I am from AL.

That is such a good story and hope the couple can find one at a rescue. There are always yorkies that need homes. Or kennels that give up an adult momma that is getting to old. Good Luck with the search.

I have contacted a Indiana Yorkie Rescue, just waiting to hear back from them.

OMG I was looking at the rescue site and I was just bawling. My heart goes out to these innocent babies. I wish I could take them all!

It will make me so happy if I can find this lady a :aimeeyork.

She was telling me how her building has a dog run and it's really a dog friendly place. I hope I can make her dream come true!

Why would you place a 2 year old dog with a couple that's 71 and 75 years old? The dog will either out live them or they will end up not being able to care for the dog as they get older and then the pup will need to be rehomed again when it's 8 or 10 years old.

Scratching my head....:confused:

I don't think any of us know when anyone is going to die....they could live to be 100.
