Looking for funky hairclips!
 
I would like to buy some hairclips for Corabel, whose hair is always in her eyes! But I am looking for something different -- she's just not a 'bow' type of girl. Anyone seen anything a little bit different out there?

Look at the hair clips in those accessory stores that sell nothing but hair and jewelry items. They have some awfully cute things. You can also glue things on to a plain clip.

The dollar store (Dollarama) sells packs of 600 teeny tiny rubber bands for $1. They come in clear, black, multicolour.

The dollar store also sells tons of tiny hair clips that work.

I buy the itty bitty hair clips & barrettes from Wal-Mart (they're made for babies/toddlers) and they work really well. Here's a pic of one :)

I have some pink clips. I have one set of bows and one set of sunglasses. I think there is someone interested in the sunglasses, but I need to find her PM again. If you are interested let me know.

Does anyone else have trouble getting the rubberbands out? Yes Walmart and the Dollar store are great places to shop.

Sometimes they come out great, others it's a struggle. I think it mostly depends on what she's been doing that day.

If they pull the least bit, I just cut them.

But for 600 for a buck it's no biggie. Plus, I find the lower quality ones you can only use once or twice before they stretch out too much. But if you use one every day, a buck will basically get you through just under 2 years.

Sounds like you've found a great deal! Now...if only I could find a Dollarama in SoCal :D!!!! I did buy a pack from the 99 cents store one day, but they were so dried out and crusty that they just broke when I tried to put them in :rolleyes: :rolleyes: .

I've never put Cora's hair in a topknot and I think it is too short at the moment as I had her clipped short for the summer. How about some headshots showing topknots to give me some ideas/pointers?

If you have a Claire's by you (most big shopping malls have them) then that's another good place to get small clips. As far as getting them out - get yourself a good pair of small, sharp pointed scissors and use them to cut the band out. Izzy knows to sit very still when I do this.....don't ask me how she knows but she does.

Sukoshi's bangs are too short to reach her top knot (I had them cut to get them out of her eyes in April, and I'm soooooo regretting that decision now), so I normally do one top knot, and then one "bang ponytail"...at least until her bangs get a little longer. BUT...she was in a modeling contest over the weekend for "GW Little" (took 2nd place...YAY), so I gelled her bangs up that day to mesh with her top knot. Here's what it looked liked (and what it should look like when her bangs actually grow out)...

Very cute! And some good ideas for what to do with this stage of hair! What gel do you use? Is it people gel or something special for dogs?

Well...I found out about the modeling contest pretty last minute, and I knew they'd want to see her eyes, so I improvised on the gel, and I just used my husband's "American Crew" citrus mint gel (and that's the only time I've gelled her hair, and I washed her top knot with shampoo as soon as we got home). If I was going to do it more often, I would look into doggie gel products. I know they make some top knot stiffeners and such that people use for dog shows. Sorry! I don't know any brand names or anything to recommend to you.

Thanks! I am so proud of her! The 1st place winner got the "cover model" spot for their next catalog, but they did ask for our information, so we can only hope they call us to be INSIDE the catalog! -Chris Christensen Thick n' Thicker Gel- only available in 8 oz size which sounds like an awful lot!!
-Pet Silk Top Knot Gel - comes ion a smaller 4 oz size

So, what do people use?

I use a Chris Christensen brush with Pet Silk Liquid Silk Serum, so I know they both make good products...but I don't know about their Top Knot Gel specifically. I agree 8 oz. sounds like a lot though, and I know Shana (shanatink - Tinkerbellscloset.com) sells the Pet Silk Top Knot Gel, so you may check her prices there and PM her to see what she thinks about it. I know she recommended the Pet Silk Serum to me, and I'm loving it for Sukoshi's coat!

You may want to search the product reviews forum too, or post a separate thread asking people's opinons if you can't find anything, since people may not check this forum as often. Does anyone else have experience with these?!?!?
