Harness That Sits Really Low on Chest I have a horrible time when I take Lilly outside. She gets very excited because she isn't used to it but we've been working with her and taking her to the park. I bought a step in harness from a pet retail store, it's not very thick. It must be pulling on her neck because when she gets excited and pulls, she starts doing the reverse sneezing. It drives me nuts because I panic because most of the time it takes me 30+ mins to get her to quit. It's making me where I don't even want to bother taking her out at all. Is there anything that I could get to help out with this? Something that will stay in place on her lower chest and not go anywhere near her neck. Any advice is greatly appreciated. ;) |
My girls have Puppia harnesses. PUPPIA ::: For the better dog's fashion ::: Puppia is the Head Office of Puppia Brand who specialized in Dog Clothes and fashion accessories together with dog carrier, harness and dog beds. All of Puppia provides end to end services from design to ma They sit across the chest and are more like a vest. Gypsy has CT so it took a long time for me to find a harness I was comfortable using with her and her not having an issue with it. If you look down the list on the right some of the harnesses have photos of the dogs wearing them so you can see how they fit. Just out of interest... what made you decide to start taking Lilly out? |
This is what I use with Milo it sits low on the chest and is in front on the breast. Milo is 6lbs and I get the Petite but we make it as big as can be. Easy Walk Harness Product Description - Premier Pet Quote:

I have to say Cindy (chattismom)'s silk step-in harnesses are not only beautiful, but they are super slim and light, sit very low on the chest, are custom-made to fit and will not mat the coat or irritate the skin. Ranger and Ryder have been living in theirs for days now and I just love love love them!!! Plus they are very reasonably priced :p |

I still refuse to take her out where I live because there's just too many people and too many people who take their dogs (medium and large) out. I also don't like them knowing I have a Yorkie. At this time though, I'm still a tiny bit hesitant on taking her out though because of her attacks which is why I made this post so I can hopefully find something that will help her not get them as much. |

That's great that you've put your fears aside so she can go for walks. I completely understand what you mean about worrying she will catch bugs or about other dogs, etc. It's always a worry in my mind as well and it makes me anxious when I take my two out. But well done to you though, I know it can't of been easy for you. I hope that Lilly will get calmer the more she goes out, I bet she gets really excited with all the new sights and smells to her. Good luck finding a harness that is suitable and you both feel comfortable with. :D |
You might try a Buddy Belt: Buddy Belts Regular Edition Leather Dog Harnesses They actually dip down a little in front. Since it is made of leather, it is formed like that to stay under their throat and not on it. There is one on ebay that looks just like a Buddy Belt for less $$ . |

I also have the leather no choke Buddy Belt harnesses for my girls, in pink with the crystals, and matching leashes. I've never had a more perfect or classy harness, and never do I take them anywhere that there isn't someone wanting to know where I got the harnesses. They go on only one way, because they fit in a special way. Special Edition Buddy Belts Leather Dog Harnesses |
Here is the one on ebay that looks like a Buddy Belt: XS Cream Leather Pet Dog Step-in Harness Belt 12-14" - eBay (item 310116407278 end time May-17-09 10:28:57 PDT) The only thing is no matching lead. Otherwise it looks just the same. I wonder if the leather would be as soft as everyone says the Buddy Belts are though. I am debating on buying it but I think if I am going to buy yet another harness, I want the matching lead and a color of my choice. Then I could also order one for the little puppy I am keeping when she gets bigger, and they would match. But then this one is only $10 plus shipping..... so maybe ..... LOL! If anyone has bought one from this ebayer, please give a review! |

I have one of Cindy's harnesses for morgan too and its great. it is no where near her neck and i've never had a problem with her pulling out of it or causing choking problems. I don't think the harness is what's causing Lilly to have her 'attacks'. my friend has a Chi that does this when she is excited too, no matter what she is wearing or not wearing. i think lilly is just sooo excited to be out that she can't contain herself. lol the more you take her out the more she should get used to it and the 'attacks' should lessen. |
