First time bow buyer! So as you guys know, Maddie is my first little girl. Until yesterday, I thought she refused to wear bows, but I was sneaky and thought of a way to make her forget about them. (Hint-it involves a treat!) :p She wore her one and only "hair piece" all day yesterday with no problems--the little crown she has on in my avatar. Anyway, because I've never purchased or used bows before, I don't even know where to begin. What types, sizes, and vendors are out there? Do certain kinds stay in better than others? What are your recommendations? Are there any that you really just DON'T like? I'm sure there are YT vendors who sell bows, but I don't know their sites or contact info. Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! |
www.lawdogbows.com She is a yt member...you can search and find other recommendations for her bows. She has some really cute cute bows on there. I prefer bows with bands instead of barrettes. I have to distract Ramsey for her to keep a bow in too. She doesn't mind letting me put one in....the distraction has to come immediately after. That's not to say...she doesn't show up later on...with it out of her hair though. Maybe she's distracting ME. |
I prefer bows that have the bands because they seem to stay in Lacy's hair better. I also use bows with barettes though. I always put Lacy's hair in a topknot first with a little band. Then I put the bow in. My favorite Bow Sellers: Ladymom www.myladysdogbows.com www.doggiebowties.com www.valsdivados.com (or Bowsbyval on eBay) crb has made Lacy several bows before too |

Bands stay in better than barrettes, but many people prefer barrettes because they say they are easier to put in. Barrettes are a choking hazard so bands are safer for puppies. How big is Maddie? The recommended size for a 4-10 pound dog is a 5/8" double looped bow. A tinier dog can wear a single looped bow. There are several of us here who make bows. The link to my website is below if you'd like to take a look. |

I just love your "pink" section. I'm having such a hard time deciding though... |
I was wondering the same thing! Kaba's hair is still too short for bows but i want her to get used to them so she doesn't mind them later. Lots of good information! |

If you do all this before, by the time you add a bow she shouldn't mind it. |
Thanks, Ladymom!!!! I need to get smaller bands...i was goofing off today trying to put one of my hair bands in, and its just to darn big...I keep looping and looping and theres still more slack...when she's "chill" in my lap, she's real good about me messing with her so i think the big thing will be distraction once its in... |

Here are a couple of good places to get them: http://www.laineeltd.com/cgi-bin/lai...ml?id=koqdQ3SS http://www.dog-bows.com/cgi-bin/TheF...atB&category=0 I also recommend getting band removal scissors. You can just snag the band with the hook on the end and cut the band without cutting the hair. |

I buy the medium weight, but I also use them on my bows. I know some people swear by the light weight ones. That didn't help much, did it? ;) |
I'm going to try the small ones. Gracie Leigh doesn't mind the bows too much, but Max pulls them out of her hair while they're playing. As soon as all of her clip on bows are ruined, I'm going to sick to bows with bands, I think. |
